It’s starting to look a little ridiculous

So I think I’ve bought 11 bikes in the last month, and I’ve only sold 3. I’ve obviously a problem(preference) for late 80’s/early 90’s MTB’s. Non of these have cost me more than $150, most much less, and most are free after I’ve sold off a part or two,

84 trek 850
90 930
91 990
92 950

90 Novara ponderosa, fillet brazed

88 Ibis Avion

86 Specialized StumpJumper sport, lugged

90 Bridgestone MB-3

random 80’s MTB that I bought for the suntour power shifters.

i didn’t intent for my Volvo to become a parts car, but apparently it has.

I don’t want it to get any worse. I’ve got 20 plus guitars, 15 custom and vintage pool cues, a box of vintage and retro watches, two drawers of sunglasses. I need to thin everything down.

Simple: ask the Mods to ban you for six months. You may quickly tire of acquiring more bikes when you can't share them here, and the culling process can then begin. Once the collection is brought down to a manageable level (ask your SO what that looks like), come back and say howdy again. Be sure to include pictures of your newly cleaned and organized garage for the benefit of others suffering the same affliction.

Now, for all you N+1 types: bring on the pitchforks

Free in terms of money, but not in terms of space and your time. The latter is the most valuable thing you have; far more valuable than money. Having said that, if spending your life this way is indeed what you want, then carry on.

I love vintage mountain bikes so I don't think your collection as a problem . . . but then we're all a bunch of enablers on this forum.

I have a 1988 Specialized Stumpjumper, a 1991 Specialized Stumpjumper, a 1992 Trek 950, and a 1993 Bridgestone MB 1. I'm still looking for a Cannondale . . .

Dude. I totally feel that situation. From spring 2020-spring 2022, I brought in 14 or 15 bikes. Our garage door started acting up on account of the sagging foundation, so we stopped parking in it.... which gave me room for 40+ total. I do feel so much better being below 20 again.

sounds like we both have problems.

I wasn’t trying to brag, just showing my addictive behavior.

when I get interested in things, I kinda hyper focus and buy quality stuff when it’s a super deal. I’ve only been “into” bikes for a little over two years. I’m raising my son and going through a masters program, so it’s a fun hobby that I can try different parts and generally make some money. I quit drinking 14 years ago, so my only real vice is buy and selling stuff.

when I got into photography around the time I quit drinking, I realized I could buy two or three lenses, sell what I didn’t want and I could keep one for free. I’ve kinda used that philosophy on all my hobbies, I let them pay for themselves.

Example, the last 4 guitars I bought I spent a total of $1100. After all was said and done, I was able to keep a Gibson LP DC Studio and an Eastman t386(semi hollow 335 style guitar) for free.

if your accumulation included department store bikes - then I might believe you have a problem

it's obvious you need more space lol

Between my husband and I, we have bought 12 C&V bikes since last November, what I would say most are on the higher end, for an average of $143.75. This doesn't include the 2 higher end tandems which were also bought in the last 11 months. Also, I don't understand this selling thing???? What is it? How do you get it?? LOL!!

BTW, they ALL get ridden, A LOT!

I have two distinct personalities on Craiglist right now - and the price has been lowered.

And I've noticed that BF members have been much less civil with each other, much like the crazy and angry people I meet in traffic every day.
I sold 3 fully restored 1970's Raleigh Grand Prix's in the summer of 2020 for about $300 each. Last spring I listed a fully restored 1972 Raleigh Super Course, it sat for months at $325, then $225, I finally sold it for $125. I guess people stocked up during the covid lock-down.

I don't see people being uncivil in C&V, a little ribbing maybe which is welcome in my opinion.

I went a little nuts during lockdown, too lol. No fooling, I’m sitting on something like ten projects. Maybe a couple more than that.
Couldn’t help myself, though. The deals were out there to be had. Scored three chromo rockhoppers. One cost a hundred and fifty bucks, the other two I brought home for forty five and twenty dollars, respectively.
