Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yep. Tis a problem keeping the toe cap clean. I'm short and have toe lap on most bikes, hence black scuff marks on white shoes.

I’ve used those but mine have a rough toe cap and don’t seem to clean up well no matter what.

I have white shoes. But that was mainly because after wanting a more high-end pair of shoes, and trying on about a dozen different shoes, the one that was by far the best happened to be available only in white.

Now after having used them, I do get a bit paranoid about them getting dirty, but that hasn't been an issue so far (except some parts, mostly along seams, seems to be turning a little yellow), and the overall look of them is actually pretty cool I find.

I think today’s Giro answered that. I was struck by the uniformity of white shoes and socks. There were a few rebels but not many that I saw. I’m a black shoes and socks guy. When you’re as slow as me you can’t wear white shoes!

Very nice, but I will continue to lament the fact that Lake for some unfathomable reason, decided to skip size 49 for all of their models.

Yesterday I wore my white shoes with orange socks, because I was wearing an orange jersey. Call me an iconoclast.

Since white is a neutral colour it works okay with any colour of socks in my book. I quite like the contrast of white shoes and black socks for example.

Yesterday I wore white shoes with orange socks because I was riding an orange bike in a kit with orange dots.

Ran in to a buddy who commented at how matched I was. Made my day

I wear clothes for practical reasons, not for participating in the fashionable and trendy. Light colored clothing is better in the hot sun, dark clothing helps when it is sunny but cold.

Yep, at my age and build, fashionable and trendy would be a silly dream. On the other hand, I'm practical enough to forego jorts on a 50 mile ride.

don't like white. Just got these:

To replace these:
(perfectly good functionally, but nasty looking as they got dirty and faded. these are about 3 years / 15000 miles old.)

You're not going to when in those new shoes. Wrong color. The best you can place is the 3rd spot.

I wear both white and black pairs of rc9s, and have matching white and black helmets. Just depends on the kit I wear. Some kits look better with white, others with black. White to me looks the most pro in general. Always match your socks to your shoes and you’re good. If you wear multi color socks, white shoes are best typically.

I have about a year on these Bontrager XXX and find them excellent. Easy to keep clean with one of these magic eraser sponges.
