Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I really don't know the current fashion trends in bike clothing. I don't necessarily shun trends, but don't closely follow them.

I have three or four pair of biking shoes in a variety of colors. My favorite is a pair of Lake CX-217 in white. I've had them for about five years, and they tick all of my boxes. Comfortable, durable, easy to put on and take off, very stiff soles, not too heavy.

I think white shoes are about as visible as can be, which is desirable for road biking. Perhaps neon orange or pink would draw slightly more attention, but white is probably close to the top in this criteria.

I have never owned a pair of white cycling shoes. I have always settled on black. Not sure why. Might have something to with the fact I think the black shoes will be easier to maintain and show scuffs less. Maybe my next pair of cycling shoes will be white. Whenever that purchase date comes along.

I recently picked up a new pair of white shoes to replace a worn out pair of white shoes.

I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be pre-judged by the colour of your cycling shoes. If you turn up shirtless on a dumpster beater then maybe.

I was just noticing the other day the white shoes in the peloton. And that all their feet looked huge. Not what I call a good look. White shoes are for yacht wear, golf courses, tennis courts and with white suits. Not on bikes. (White tennys OK for tooling around resorts and beaches.)

All my cycling shoes were black until last year. I painted the Mooney a burgundy. August I went to the Lake website for the cheapest shoes with leather uppers and 3-hole cleat compatibility. Eye-opener. That was the second from the top Lake shoe. $300. Double BOA. CF. (This was a couple of weeks before my paid for Cycle Oregon; to be my last one on a fix gear. Footwear being critical there. A synthetic that didn't work could be a not so slow torture and many visits to Medical.) That shoe was offered in black, burgundy (and I think white but I didn't even "see" that). Bought the burgundy to go with the bike. One of the nicest shoes I've ever put my feet in. (And - Saphir #12, Hermes Red shoe polish is exactly the right color!)

Considering the average age on this board, I would consider this group to be massive trend followers. So go with pink.

I wear white going on three years now. Good for the visibility.
Plus, ya never know when the nearby used car dealer might flag me down to work their lot.
I previously wore lightish blue shoes. Black ones always made me look like my dad working around the yard in his shorts.

My pop wore black shoes, white socks, and various shorts. Very embarassing.
Fortunately, we lived in the sticks, so not many of our neighbors or friends caught a glimpse.

All you need to cover the seasons are two cans of spray paint. One white and one black. Problem solved. Or one of each color.

It was a joke. Sorry I didn't realise that your opinion on shoe colour was to be taken seriously.

My current preference is white on the road, and black in the dirt (MTB or gravel). I wear different versions of the same shoe (Bont Riot+) for both. Sock color will vary, but probably coordinate with with either the shoes or jersey.
