How Many Pairs Of Road Shoes Do You Have?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I recently acquired my second. I needed a pair of dedicated winter shoes. I get cold feet easily.

I only use SPD pedals for MTB and road bikes. I have no use for cycling shoes that I can’t also easily do a little walking in. I have only one pair of shoes, Specialized Sport MTB. They are about 3 1/4 years old and still in great shape after well over 10,000 miles of cycling. Each to their own.

One pair of S Works shoes circa 2013 still the best shoes I’ve ever owned. Every now and again I think it’s time to get another pair but these still work beautifully and are just as comfortable as day one

Four, not counting the ancestral nail-on cleat ones.

Two.

I really like my Specialized Torch 2.0 road shoes. Earlier today I ordered some toe covers to keep them drier and cleaner in winter weather.

I hang onto an older pair of Garneau road shoes as a back-up. Biggest advantages of the newer shoes: rubber grips at toe and heal, and awesome reflectivity.

Been wearing MTB shoes for 24 years.

Tried Look pedals once. After a month, tossed them! Actually gave them to a friend who swore by them. Not for me.

But as far as cycling shoes, probably get 3 years our of them before they wear out too much. I do replace the cleats as needed though.

I have been quite pleased with the performance of these in some fairly impressive PNW rain: https://www.showerspass.com/collecti...spoint-brights

I would normally never, every pay 37 dollars for socks, but these have been well worth it.

I have dedicated winter shoes for the rain and cold.
They have a layer of neoprene with a high ankle. Much better than mucking around with booties etc.

I have dedicated race shoes that I broke in over a few weeks on the indoor trainer.

Nothing wrong with having pristine gear for race day. Every mental bump, even if not performance related, helps.

Not counting the 1 pair (Specialized) that I keep down at my parents' place (to go along w/ the 1 bike I keep there) I have 4 pairs of cycling shoes:
- SIDI - the newest, and hence my usual go-to shoe...unless I'm wearing really thin socks, and then I grab
- Gaerne - they're about 8 years old, so I usually reserve them for when I'm wearing really thin socks (as above), or for wet-weather riding...unless it's really wet, and then I grab
- Specialized - they're 13 years old and look as if they're falling apart, but I can't seem to kill them, so they're perfect for riding in torrential downpours and then leaving in the hallway for a week to dry out
also, I have one pair of
- Answer winter cycling boots - maybe 9 or 10 years old? I grab these whenever temps get below 40°F

I've used these since 2013 as my only road shoes. Still on the original laces, and I expect a few more years from them. Best pair of riding shoes I've ever owned.

Just 2

Before: 348g per shoe w/o cleat
Wore these Sidi's for ~6 years, will still be my rainy / nasty cold day shoe

After: 367g for pair with cleats

Very comfy first impressions on trainer, feels like a skin suit for your foot, no pressure, very thin feeling

The HED 3's for sale or in use? They the newer plus versions or the old narrow?

Sorry, I'm a TT geek. Always kicking the tires when I see cool stuff.

Also a fan of N+1 for bikes and shoes. Just counted 11 pairs. My excuse: 4 different pedal types, mountain/road, and most important... color matching.
