Starting the OFFICIAL Steel club.

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey it isn't wall art, it's my everyday ride. When you have size 13 feet, cages are a PITA, but I have the originals stored away, so the Executor of my estate can put them back on before he sells the bike.
The shifters are Shimano 600, another sacrilege. Someday I will replace those.

QUESTION steel pros....

i was wondering..... what would be the premiere STEEL TUBING to have a frame built out of (like how carbon has high modulus carbon, blah blah, etc?) which tubes/brands would be considered the creme de la creme of steel frames.... columbus/reynolds/deddaci/alcor etc...

there are a few i have noted and noticed.. but id like to ask the pros here on the board.. and ive tried searching with no luck... if this has been discussed 1000 times please feel free to enlighten me....

im sure what im asking may be impossible to answer.. but if you guys can give me a nice little list to go off of that would be amazing..

thanks in advanced

I would also like to point out that if you accept "Steel is good", then you're honor-bound to accept "More Steel is Better"!

I will post pics of a couple of these later...

1986 Schwinn Voyageur. Columbus Tenax main tubes. Built with modern Shimano 105 compact double.

1989 Centurion Ironman Master, Tange #1 tubing with original Shimano 600/Ultegra.

1956 Schwinn Corvette and 1961 Schwinn Jaguar... Or are we only counting diamond frame road bikes, and not middle weights?

1980's Raleigh Marathon mixte that I am building up as a gift for a friend.

A couple of other hi-ten steel bikes in the storage room.

Good catch - MAX markings are just visible above the headset. I've moved this summer, and haven't finished putting the bike back together before winter.

Okay, I'll join up.

Bianchi San Jose fixed gear

Raleigh Ltd.-3 Sturmey Archer 3 speed. the "lead sled"

Wife's Peugeot Singlespeed I built up.

John Howard frame built by Dave Tesch. To be built up with Dura Ace. Or made into a fixie.

Pinarello Treviso to be repainted and built up with Campagnolo. Downtube shifters, too.

Schwinn Collegiate 3-speed. I keep this at work to cruise around on during lunch break until I sell it.

Oh, and somewhere's in the garage is a Schwinn Paramount frame with non-original fork(some Cinelli thing) in an ugly, fugly goldish bleah color.

I got bike-itis bad. We won't even mention those other b@stard materials I've experimented with.
