1977 Fuji America- NOS and new parts
1977 Fuji America- fully restored with many new and NOS parts
The original credit card tourer- 73 degree head and seat tube angles, a relatively long wheel base, low trail fork bend, and quality tires make for a silky-smooth ride, and the high end Fuji 331 chrome molly frame tubes are stiff enough to give it plenty of get-up-and-go when desired.
Every component has been disassembled, cleaned, polished , reassembled with the correct lubricants, and adjusted. No dents or frame damage- this bicycle has been well cared for by its previous owners, and expertly restored.
New-old-stock parts:
Brooks Professional leather saddle
Dia Compe brake levers and hoods
Suntour 5 speed freewheel
MKS Sylvan Road pedals and toeclips
Correct Primus frame pump
Dropout adjuster screws
New parts:
Panaracer Gravel King 700x28c tires
Tubes
Cables and housing
Chain
Precision ball bearings
Dia Compe brake pads
Newbaum’s cotton handlebar tape

I know that you know more about old Fujis than I ever will, but everyone of these bikes that has passed through my hands (and the ones I've considered buying locally) have had good chrome.

Oh how I wish that was the case. Here's my '76. Bought it from the original owner who claims to have bout 20K kms on it. The wear on the chain rings say otherwise. I think he just put it away wet and often.

I dunno, I suppose it could be environmental, or the luck of the draw, but all 3 of my current Fuji frames are well-peppered. '74 Newest, '80 America, '84 Touring Series IV. Not as bad as the one just below, but likely they'll need to be blasted and painted over. And I feel like more often than not the higher-end vintage ones I pay attention to on ebay have chrome issues. But nothing real data-driven there, just observation/anecdotal, which can be somewhat self-selecting.
