Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where is Everybody?

Contrary to all weather forecasts, it turned out to be a beautiful weekend for biking here in the Mohawk Valley. We had temps in the high 40s low 50s both days, with plenty of sunshine and light breezes. I logged a total of 85 miles and only saw two--count, 'em, two--other roadies in my travels. That's not uncommon, but it always pisses me off.

I was laid up most of the summer recovering from surgery, so this is the farthest I've ridden over two days since mid May. My first ride, post op, was August 1. I did 14 miles (lots of climbing around here) and it was rough. My first run I had to walk up a couple of the worst hills. Talk about humiliating. But that was the only time.

Maybe I should have been raking leaves like everyone else, but I don't get the euphoria on the other end of a rake that I get riding in beautiful fall weather.

I was out riding just north of you, in West Quebec and had a similar experience. I think I saw two other roadies out in my 100km loop.

I love riding this time of year when we're lucky enough to get some sun, but I guess not everyone does. It was a little cooler here, though. High 20s in the early morning and up to high 40s mid afternoon.

I was on the MUP for 20 miles, and then 20 back today. 4 people on bikes, including myself.

I'm sick this weekend, so I didn't start a Weekend Ride thread. But it is beautifully sunny out there ... of course ... now that I'm sick.
