Everything works and it still rides smooth. I had no idea what I was picking up. I just needed a free bike.
FYI: the model is a Custom Sport.

Another Nishiki to add to the collection. I have a Nishiki Olympic (red + white), serial# CE08733. I'm in Canada so going by the interpretation guide this would likely be a 1975 model? 12 speed Shimano 600 groupset, Shimano Sakae SA crank. What level in the range would this model sit at? More entry-level? I'm hoping to restore it, anyone know where to source some original vintage bike decals?

Hello Widget8156,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting your information.

The serial number is from 1985 year of manufacture. Canadian Nishiki models did not begin distribution until 1976 manufactured frames.

I am guessing that it is a 1986 model year, because of the colours. Is there a "Bicycles of Distinction" logo on the seat tube? If so, then 1986 model year.

I cannot help you with the decals, but you may want to ensure that you get the correct model year.

Road Compe. I'm thinking this is a 72 or 73? It's a very low production number.

Hello Jaws01,

welcome to the forums.

From the the serial number the K may be for Kinesis of Taiwan, ROC. Kinesis also had production facilities in the Peoples Republic of China.

Just adding data, I figured out the year already. Canadian 1985 Nishiki Continental, serial # CE11823. I got it as a frame and everything on it except for wheels. New wheels and freewheel, seat and bar tape and a lot of cleaning and polishing. I've also added black Cane Creek brake lever hoods since the pictures.

I've got another for the database, but I'm not sure what all I can offer yet. Just signed up to post this, so pictures pending.

KS105174

I picked it up at a parks and rec auction as an "Unknown Japanese Vintage Bike" and the design matches up to 1970/1971, maybe?

Badge missing, green, most decals removed/stripped but paint looks original

Only things remaining are a black/yellow "KB Bicycles" decal at the top of the downtube, and a "Made in Japan" decal above the BB.

I was thinking it was pre name change, but also has the Red/Blue/Yellow logos on the sides of the fork.

Hello Breadfan,

this serial number can be confusing because it starts with "KS". It is a Nishiki brand, so the assumption based on the serial number is that the frame was made by Kawamura Sangyo. If the frame was from Kawamura and with a Nishiki badge from 1972, then there should be six digits following the KS. There are only five digits.

This frame was probably manufactured by Katakura. The 1972 Nishiki Professional and Road Compe models were made by Katakura.

Hello werwolf255 and welcome to the forum.

The serial number is in the range of the American Eagle marque name. I think you have the year dates right. The decals are right for the American Eagle.

I have seen a green Olympiad model.

Breadfan - That one is just like mine. I too have a low s/n and it is not in the data base/ couldn't be traced. Apparently, the frame maker did not leave any tell tales for us to use these many years later. I am second owner. First owner installed PhilWood hubs and side pulls. I have changes rims to metric and brakes to match. It is such a nice ride.

Here's another for the database. My Nishiki Olympic, now seemingly dated to 1977, is frame s/n KG32324. Equpped with DiaCompe brakes, Shimano 600 derailleurs, and in process of rehabilitation after long storage. I bought it new in 1977, as I recall.

Here is one I found on FB marketplace that I am considering picking up for a project. Let me know if you think it's worthwhile? There are no stickers or decals to indicate material or model number...

CJ 05546

It might be CJX05546 as there is a space about the size of one character between the J and the 0.

I'm new to the forum so I can't post pics or links unfortunately.

Hello awesome Nishiki people, stumbled upon this thread and would love to tap into your knowledge.

I recently purchased a (supposedly) Nishiki bicycle and I would really appreciate your help finding more information about it.

It's been stripped and painted over, so here are some clues:
Shimano 105 1050 groupset
Shimano 105 headset
Araya 700c rims and 105 hubs
The seat tube (not the BB) has the serial number stamped on the bottom part - GS71399
The fork (hopefully it's the original one) has "Ishiwata" stamped on the steerer tube

It sort of looks like a Nishiki Prestige but I'm not sure
Thanks!

Adding another to the pile: a Nishiki Competition, serial number KS331990. From T-Mar's serial number code key, I gather this was made for the U.S. market pre-1975. I inherited it from someone who had purchased it at an estate sale, so I'm not sure how much is original. Here are the possibly original components:
  • Dia-Compe 5583 center pull brakes
  • Shimano RD-Z501 rear derailleur
  • Sugino Mighty Competition crankset (52T-43T) with drilled out spiders
  • SR forged stem (21.1 mm diameter)
  • KB Champion handlebars
Is there any way to date this apart from numbers on the components? I'm not finding too many. Thanks!

I have a Nishiki Landau with a "CJ 0" serial number that has no decals except the Nishiki marque logo. The Landau model at this time had a Chrome Molybdium frame.

Hello nishikiwhat, welcome to the forum.

The serial number format and location are probably not for a Nishiki.

More likely this is a frame made by Maruishi. Maruishi was contracted to make frames for several marque names including Nashbar.

Hello cyclesNYC, welcome to the forum.

Based on the sequential number in the serial number the frame probably was manufactured in 1974 or 1975.

The components along with model numbers have date codes. Different component manufacturers used different date coding schemes, using numbers and/or letters for year and month.

I recently bought a Nishiki Modulus, and I would really appreciate some help nailing down the frame. Unfortunately, I can't post images until I have posted 10 messages, but here's what I have:

Serial number is CC910552 which seems to be Canadian market 1983. However, the frame says performance equipe and has Exage Action components which seem to be 1989 specific?

Breadfan
hi Breadfan,
You presented your green Nishiki here in April 23.

At that time it was still in a condition that still required intensive care.

How does the green Nishiki look today? It could already have become a beauty .

show us some pictures . Thanks.
