Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ultegra 160mm brake rotors and resin pads. The front brake suddenly started making a scraping racket, like it had sand or dirt in it. Took the wheel off and removed the rotor to clean it with alcohol and noticed that hmm, it seems a little worn as there's a substantial lip at the edge. Checked with a micrometer and EEEK - 1.38mm! The brake pads were work down to the bone too, so I think what happened was the pad holder rubbed on the lip. That was a Dura-Ace rotor (for purely cosmetic purposes). Grabbed an Ultegra spare I had lying around that was close to new and cleaned and mounted it. New resin pads (last L03A's in my bin), and a caliper adjustment to center the new rotor. Good as new, sweet sweet silence. The D-A one lasted me about two years, so not too bad, but they definitely have a limited lifespan. Checked the rear; rotor was down to 1.53 so got replaced as well; pads were fine so they stayed on.

Ordered some L05A pads and two Ultegra rotors to have on hand.

My wife got me a pair of these for my birthday and I have to say, they are awesome, so I went ahead and ordered 4 more pair and got a few pairs of hiking socks for day to day stuff, my old ones have seen better days. Love me some merino wool.

They're good socks. FWIW, you can usually save some $ on Smartwool at Sierra

I like how you think and I agree with you on merino wool blend socks; they are the bomb.
My favorites are these: Castelli Mens Gregge 15 Sock at BikeTiresDirect
I ordered 1+2+3 (in consecutive orders with other things) and now there is only one pair left.

Yea I have been using wool socks for normal day to day for a long time, so naturally moved to get them for cycling many moons ago, never used this brand before, so glad I like them. I have been using Giro Hoxton Merino short fingers for about 8 years , but they stopped making the short finger versions. Luckily, I bought several pairs when I found some on sale. They typically last me about 4 years, so the 2 pairs I have left should cover me for the next 10 to 12 years. I bought a pair of the long finger versions recently and going to have a seamstress take a stab at turning them into the short versions.

If anyone knows of some short finger non-padded Merino wool gloves, send me a link.
