Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

An HOA usually is just a committee of semi-professional busybodies.

That's why I was feeling snubbed. I'll still buy you a beverage on your way back through if we can work out the details.

Talk to me about that mower. Biggest concern is battery life. I assume it's durable enough to last awhile.

Major relief for sure.

I'd rather deal with a HOA than goats in my neighbors' yards.

Agree- ours isn’t really that intrusive, your house has to be a certain group of colors, you can’t have certain things in your yard and you have to take care of your house. They also maintain trails for hiking and biking.

I love having neighbor goats provided they don't get out and jump on your car.

We rented a herd of 24 goats to eat the Ivy in our back yard. Turns out that when they say "A kid'll eat Ivy, too", what they DON'T tell you is they'll only eat the ivy when every other green thing in the back yard has already been eaten. Also, their eyes have those creepy 'bar' pupils, and Rango became convinced they were attacking him from a distance - he'd gotten out of the house and was having a great time chasing them, but as we were bringing him back in, he brushed up against the electric fence the goatherd had set up to keep them penned in, and let out a loud yelp. After that, you couldn't get him to go out the back door till the goats were gone.

Nothing, and they taste good.

Nearly two decades ago I helped a French Canadian couple plan a tour in Andalucia. They sent me this photo they took. I love the lazy dog.

Okay, so, the wheels I found on FB Marketplace - They're not Dura Ace 7200. I was wrong about the acorn nuts - I guess I saw what I wanted to. BUT they are tubular rims. In fact they come with a pair of Wolber tubs, which hold air. Well SOME air. But they're no longer glued to the rim. The hubs appear to be first generation Shimano 600s, 36 hole. The rims are Mavic Monthlery Pros, in good shape. There surface rust on some of the hub components but the rear spins smoothly, and while the front is a little 'crunchy', it may still be fine once repacked. We'll see.

The wheels are almost certainly 120mm, and I need 126 to fit the dropouts on the Lotus, but I figure I can get there with spacers, maybe a new axle, and of course re-dish the wheel. Now I have a project for my new truing stand! That and learning how to glue tubs.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I like living in a place where there are no rusty cars in the yard, no boats or campers in the drive, no shopping carts and other junk in the back yards, no chain link fences, and no livestock.

With that said, when my kids were in high school, there were a couple of young pokes that rode their horses to school.

I’m with you there, that’s all under not too intrusive to me. I don’t want my neighbors depreciating my property value because they can’t be bothered.

What did the horses do during the day? Graze on the school's south pasture?

I was really jealous when I saw the photo. I didn't ride that area when I was there because it was too early in the spring. Foothills between the Sierra Nevada, which contain Spain's two highest peaks, and the sea. Abnormally wet, cold spring. They were still having snow flurries and cold nights. Plus, I would have ended up in Granada during Seman Santa (Easter week). Not the place you want to be without a reservation.

Windy afternoon so I rode on the gravels. Since getting the S-Works 7s, I was able to make my Lake 238s dedicated SPD shoes. Now, allz I need is some flat top bars and the Lynskey will finally be comfortable. ...maybe a good saddle too.

Based on the size of the spacer, the rear may actually be 126 mms. But I'm at work with no ruler or calipers or bike frame! I'll have to wait to find out.

I hate waiting.

There was a place to tie 'em under some shade trees out yonder. The horses just stood around all day.
