Question: I'd love to see one of these started here in Colorado/Denver. But not sure where to start or how to organize? I looked at the 'Regional Discussions' for my area and conversation is pretty dead. Wouldn't take much to get things going...even just 4 or 5 riders and then slowly spreading the word I guess.
Would the mods look favorably or unfavorable on a discussion in this forum regarding a get-together roll call type of thread?
I have these vintage bikes and think it would be fun to ride them with others!

Just got my first vintage bike (1986 Bianchi Sport SX) so look forward to joining you guys on one of your upcoming rides. Looks like you guys cover many of the usual roads I ride on so was fun going over the photos and trying to recognize where they were taken.

Pick a meeting point, map a route, and advertise your intentions. Put announcements here, on Facebook, Instagram, MeetUp, and whatever other online platform the kids are using these days. Print flyers and pin them up in shops. Do your ride and see who shows up. And do it again the next month. And the next month. And keep doing it consistently. If the weather is super crappy, meet with people and stand around drinking coffee and talking about bikes. But you have to keep showing up! A consistent schedule is your greatest asset. People need to know that even if they miss a month, the ride will be there for them next month.
Admire the diversity of bikes out there. If you advertise a "vintage bicycle ride" and someone shows up on a clapped-out Varsity... welcome them. If they show up on a Spaceterzoid XL unobtanium bike... welcome them. Ride with them. Tell them what your intent was in organizing the ride... maybe they'll show up on a different bike next month. Maybe they'll tell a friend with an orange Colnago.
I rode a few times with the Portland C&V group before the demise of Velo Cult put the kibosh on it. I rode my recumbent, and no one looked sideways at me. It was sort of old, but it didn't matter. They were a fun group to ride with and chat with and I hope someone gets a C&V ride going again. I also want to get back to Pasadena (I grew up there) with one of my old Schwinns and join the Velo-Retro ride. Ambitions, ambitions... I just have to survive my job long enough to retire.

Almost that time of the month... Who is coming on Sunday? Need real time critiques for my new to me Shogun.

Check out the head badge - Looking for a Samurai helmet to go with this...

What tape to go on that Randonneur bar black or blue.... need suggestions before Sunday, Leaning toward Cinelli black cork

Purple Annodized Araya rim - Any info on these would be much appreciated.

Shimano Deore touring groupo - funky pedal

You all have fun on Sunday. I'm taking the '77 Grand Record on its first real ride with the PCH Randonneurs. But this summer and before September, we need to arrive early for some Pre-Velo-Retro climbing and dirt miles.

As for the December ride, as of Wednesday night, there’s a 60-70% chance of rain and mid 50’s temps for Sunday, Dec. 4 ride. If the weather is wet, I’m not likely to come.
But as Chuck Schmidt says, the rides goes on even if no one shows up.

When I rebuilt my dad's '77 Nishiki in early 2020, my intent was to bring it out for the ride. I still haven't done it. Maybe next year.

Holy Cow. I wish I came up last month just to witness that Cinelli get the “just a bike” treatment. Is it an SC? Many owners won’t even ride theirs.

So, is this always the first Sunday of the month? Will be in Pasadena in early April 2023, looking for rides and riding buddies.

Velo-Retro: Rose Bowl Ride
I thought we had it in the vintage cycling events calendar, but it went missing. I will add it back.

I’m not riding tomorrow. I spent most of Saturday fighting traffic, trying to find parking in downtown Los Angeles, and walking about 5 miles at the LA Convention Center to attend a day at Los Angeles Comic Con. The event is pretty big and just tons of vendors, artists, actors, etc. Got a picture with Levar Burton of Star Trek and Steve Burns of Blues Clues plus saw a ton of Cosplayers in all kinds of costumes. I wore two different Star Trek uniforms.
I thought the rain was going to hold off but looks like revised forecast for Pasadena says 30% chance of rain at 11 o’clock hour then again at 3pm. If you guys are lucky maybe it’s just a bit moist. Otherwise stay safe and be careful.
See you in January. The next ride is on January 1st, the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl game are on Monday January 2nd. Hopefully the parking lots will still be available.
Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year!

No conflict with The Rose Bowl Vintage Ride and the Rose Parade
The Rose Bowl Vintage Ride and the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl game are never held on the same day. The Vintage Ride is always held on a Sunday and the Rose Parade is never held on a Sunday.
From the Pasadena Star-News:
"Thou shalt not hold the Rose Parade on a Sunday.
Thus spake Tournament of Roses officials in 1893, the first time New Year’s Day fell on the Lord’s Day. That year, organizers decided to move the New Year’s festivities to Jan. 2 in order to avoid frightening horses tied outside local churches and disrupting worship services.
In keeping with this tradition, the 134th Rose Parade and 109th Rose Bowl game will be held on Monday, Jan. 2, 2023."
The weather forecast is 64 degrees and glorious! Hope to see you all there in the New Year!
Regards,
Chuck Schmidt
