Hello. Can someone tell me what year this trek 7.5 FX is from and If it’s worth the $300 being asked?

It is a nice bike, but for that money I'd be wanting disc brakes. A few years ago I found a lightly used Trek 8.3 DS from the Gary Fisher Collection for less than that one. I believe I paid $225.00 for it. It needed nothing. I use it as my travel bike when we vacation and it is great on rails-to-trails routes.

If you like that bike, look in your area for comps and see if you can negotiate it down a little. That's what I'd do.

I assume you want it to ride? Always helps for us to know that. If it doesn't fit, the value to you is zero. And if you intend to flip it, then it is already overpriced.

Thanks for your response. I found this bike on the Facebook marketplace and was thinking of negotiating with the seller to mark it down. It would be a bike for me to ride. I’ve been looking for one for the fall season. Lost the chance a few days ago of getting a 7.3 fx for $150!!! So now I’m eagerly searching for another bicycle to fit my needs before the fall riding season ends.

2010 had the same graphics and the color is something like satin nickel, and that is one of the two colors that year.

In my area, if the bike's condition was good, $300 for a 7.5 would be a pretty reasonable to very a reasonable price. On CL, folks would be lining up to grab it. I purchased a 7.5fx early this year (did a drop bar conversion on it and gave to to my GF) for $325. That was asking and I didn't dicker on the price. The bike was like new. Typically a 7.5 will be in the $375-$450 range around here. Ridiculous in my estimation, but that's where the asking prices have been. The 7.5fx has been very popular over the years so there's lot's of them on the used market. Nice, lightweight, fast bike. With a drop bar conversion it's a great all-rounder for road and light trails. my GF LOVES the bike. With the stock triple crank it's good for some of the hilly routes we ride.

As for the blue-book website..useless. The prices quoted there have no, none, zero relation to reality on the used market. One can only hope that a seller uses it to price a bike they are selling as the buyer will get a very good deal.

thank you for this info! I think I’m leaning towards getting it for $250. I saw a 7.2fx for $225 in my area so a 7.5fx for seems like a good deal. Where does the 7.5fx stand in terms of bicycles in that same series? The 7.3 seems to be well liked as well

The 7.5 is the first in the series (from bottom up) to have a carbon fork. Typically the component group on the 7.5 is much better than the lower models. If you get it for $250, consider yourself lucky. That would be a unicorn around here. Consider that while you might be dithering around trying to get a great deal, someone else may grab it for $275 or $300..and then you'll be looking for another at $300..if you're lucky. I'm guessing you haven't been looking long or you'd have a good idea of what the 7.5fx asking prices typically are.

They typically come with "Hardcase" tires. While they probably are very flat resistant..they're a horrible tire to ride on. Very stiff and very slow. A set of 32 to 38mm Panaracer Gravel King Slicks will be MUCH more fun on that bike.

edit..of course the bike's condition means ALOT. If it's beat up and needs work, then it may be worth less. If it's in pristine condition then "a bird in the hand...."

looks a bit beat up from the pics. The other FX 7.2 you mentioned was like new and cheaper. I think I'd rather get that one since once you start replacing parts on 7.5, you'd be closer to MSRP quick.

Thanks. I later realized the fx 7.2 was not the right frame size for me. I found a trek verve 2 for $200 that does actually fit me though. So now it’s back to 7.5 for $250 vs verve 2 for $200

seems like the verve 2 have lower quality components in regards to the 7.5. Yes I really am as indecisive as it appears online haha

I'm sure it's true, since there's roughly $400 difference in msrp. However, condition of said components is what matters in used market, especially if you're not handy.

Is the suspension important to you?

I’ll be riding mostly on bike paths and light trails so I don’t think suspension is super important for me.

That bike has hybrid bike/post suspension, which doesn't hurt, especially in the bottom region.

Low end suspension is often more trouble (and weight) than it's worth. If it were me and all the components were in equally working shape, the 7.5 would be worth the extra $50.

With the 7.5 FX you get the Deore group set and the carbon fork. I have a 2014 7.4FX WSD (also a carbon fork) and it rides super nice. That one is a little older than mine, but the components are nicer. I'd pick that any day over the Verve.

The 7.5 FX is a significant step up compared to the pictured Verve - and well worth the original asking price of $300 so $250 is even better
