Does it qualify for this section? 9spd Shimano 105 across the board.
Managed to snag one on ebay for under $20 (plus ~$100) shipping.. Def needs new chain and cassette, will know more about the rest later.

Added bonus, it's yellow, which is the best color. Obviously.

It has arrived! Taking it to my LBS in a week for a full breakdown/tuneup. Definitely needs new chain, so probably the cassette as well. Bar tape, brake pads, and a bath. Clearly has some stickers that were poorly removed, so looking in to a gentle solvent to get rid of the residual glue.

Haven't ridden it, but on the stand the derailleurs both shifted smoothly which was my main concern It's definitely been dropped on the drive line side at least once so I was worried the rear derailleur was damaged.


Water bottle cage was cracked all the way through (oh, the horror!), so that has already been removed and I'm searching for one blue and one yellow to replace it. Added bonus, it came with a cheap-ass pair of Welgo resin pedals which were mediately switched out for some old R540 SPD-SL pedals I had laying around.

Asked in Bike Mechanics about the rear rim, it may have a crack. For the price I paid I don't mind replacing it, although it is a bummer.

Cool bike! Looks like to potential crack in the rear rim is just a bit of grease/dirt that has run across the rim and spoke.
The good thing about these bikes is that the shifting and performance is pretty close to what you get on a new bike at a. fraction of the cost. Well done on the purchase, that's a good score for 20 bucks!

Maiden ride compete. Only 11miles, but 850' of elevation gain made me really appreciate the triple.

So, fully kitted and ready to ride for ~$400. Another $200 in freebies from REI, but all of that and most of the other accessories I could have just switched around from other bikes. I could have been ready to ride with the same set up as above for $325. Cheaper if I was local pickup, or did my own wrenching. Theoretically, TBH, if the stars aligned and I wasn't lazy this could have been a $75 steal. As is, I am exceptionally happy with my out of pocket.

Already had an offer to buy it for more than I put in, which is crazy.

I used to own a Trek dealership and sold 2200's. FYI the paired spoke designed wheels were a total disaster/ warranty nightmare. A really bad design. They were suppose to be stronger by putting the apposing pulling forces close together, unfortunately that meant all of the force is in one place, too much force in one place meant overloading the hub or and rim, often resulting in cracking. When I got out of the bike business, I could not wait to get rid of the few pairs I has left.

Yeah, my LBS guy did the same and mentioned it before I even brought the bike in. He gave them the thumbs up already knowing I would spring for new rims if he thought them questionable. He said ride them till they die, then get sometbing new.

Rolf Prima make good wheels but the ones that were licensed to Trek had loads of issues, I think they have fixed a lot of that and I have known quite a few folks who are big folks or high mileage riders who have ridden them no problem.

On vacation and brought the bike with me so I could get on some miles with my BIL (I'm his designated boat anchor, lol). Anyway, randomly stopped in to a Play It Again Sports in Chapel Hill and they had one in a 58cm for sale. Didn't look too closely but it appeared stock except the saddle, they wanted $350. Briefly toyed with the idea of picking it up for my spawn but he really needs a gravel or cyclocross bike to replace the one he's out growing vs. a road bike.
