I have been using GasFlux type B for brass/bronze for a long time. I just received a pound of their type G to check out. Has anyone here tried it? Andy

Andy I've used it for years. Long ago I asked Gasflux which of their fluxes would work best with stainless and they recommended Type G. It has a higher active temperature range then Type U by about 100 degrees F. This flux is especially good for beginners because its higher heat tolerance range prevents scorching. I am also under the impression that it has better surface cleaning ability too. I find no reason to buy Type U. Just to be clear, I use Type G for silver and only Type B for bronze.

Is type G clear? I use black flux sometimes, but it's a bit annoying since you can't see through it.

Doug- Which means I have used type G before, at your shop! The stainless steel use is what I sort of recalled but was unsure. Thanks, Andy

Yes when it gets up to active temperature, it becomes clear. It is an excellent flux for rookies because of its higher temperature range on regular steel and for anyone using stainless. it is just as good an all purpose silver flux as Type U except with better surface cleaning properties and of course the higher temperature range. I tried to get Hank at Henry James to stock it but wasn't successful. I think one of the west coast frame suppliers carries it now. Cycle Design Stainless Light works great too.

Bike fab supply lists it, but they are out of stock. Nova and Framebuilders supply don't list it. Trying to think of who else there is.
I guess Phoenix is west of both of us.
