Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I lived through the '60s muscle car era and there are a lot around to ogle at car shows. I enjoy more the oddities that we rarely see in the Midwest rust belt like a Ferrari Spyder, a couple bug-eye Sprites, several AC Cobra kit cars and one of Shelby's late models that he made in LV, aN AH 3000, and a few other rare beauties.

We rode to the show show and I ate so much chili that the ride home was a belch fest.

Yep. And goin to get much colder, down to single digits in a few days. At least I'll have adapted a bit by then; coming from hot humid Texas it's brutal today.

Here for Thanksgiving, then your new neck of the woods for Christmas.

Back from a chilly and very windy ride. I am somehow atop the leaderboard (and KOM) but not expecting it to last.

Another 34 km this morning. It's getting to be a habit again. Rather warm again. This time of year, the change of season can come on any given day. It's best to just be patient. There will come a time, soon, when I will not work up a sweat on one of these rides.

Visiting. The move is tentatively for spring, but to live with mom at first while AG's job thing and the general economy play out further. Of course, planning anything right now feels like writing on the sand in a hurricane.

The weather is a changing. Fast too. I was in shorts yesterday morning for a quick run and yard work, wearing a long sleeve jersey for an afternoon bike ride, and in sweats with a fire roaring by the evening.

Today has been been all rain and in the 40s. At least I was able to get a swim in at the gym (indoor pool). Great day for F1 and football, which is how I’ll be spending my afternoon.

We all should worry less about our plans and concentrate on dealing better with life throwing us a curveball. People were making plans on 9/10/2001 and in December 2019. Then stuff happened.

I'm a planner and plans are good but our reaction to things going to hell in a handbasket is one of a few things we can control.

Mrs datlas got some wooden kitchen armchairs off FB recently. I don’t like to use them because the arms are too high to fit under the kitchen table. She had the bright idea to cut an inch off the bottom of each chair leg so the chairs will fit. The only power saw we have is a miter saw. I tried to explain to her this is not really the right tool for the job, but she is adamant to cut the legs. Wish me luck.

See song lyrics below, Cadillac Ranch by Springsteen. Especially the second paragraph:

Well, there she sits buddy just a gleaming in the sun
There to greet a working man when his day is done
I'm gonna pack my pa and I'm gonna pack my aunt
I'm gonna take them down to the Cadillac Ranch

Eldorado fins, whitewalls and skirts
Rides just like a little bit of heaven here on earth
Well buddy when I die throw my body in the back
And drive me to the junkyard in my Cadillac

Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines let 'em roar
Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur

James Dean in that Mercury '49
Junior Johnson runnin' thru the woods of Caroline
Even Burt Reynolds in that black Trans-Am
All gonna meet down at the Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Open up your engines let 'em roar
Tearing up the highway like a big old dinosaur

Hey, little girlie in the blue jeans so tight
Drivin' alone through the Wisconsin night
You're my last love baby you're my last chance
Don't let 'em take me to the Cadillac Ranch

Cadillac, Cadillac
Long and dark, shiny and black
Pulled up to my house today
Came and took my little girl away
