New from Texas

Hi,

I am a guy in my 40s, I recently move to the small town of Pampa, Texas, and this town seems perfect for riding bicycle, it is fairly small, flat and, decent weather a good part of the year. Though there is not really much of infrastructure for cycling, there is also no much traffic in most of the town. There is mix use trail that goes a good distance in a park.

As far as I can tell, there is also not culture and not community of bicycle in this town. No stores dedicated to this, and not repair shops or the so. Still I'm feeling very motivated and would like to transition some of my activities from car to bicycle.

I have no used a bicycle as means of transportation since... basically my childhood.

I have not pick a new bicycle yet, I'm still in the process of researching for my new starting bicycle. I really like that "step trough" design, it is so convenient when no wearing sport clothes. Too bad that for some reason people have decided that design is for women only.

I'm looking forward to meet more member of the online community.

yes... I have being looking online for bicycles and the ones that i like are starting price $500 and up... which is a bit of the investment, considering that is my first bike and i just want to try out how this works... So looks like i should follow your recommendation and get a cheap one that reassemble in general terms what i want.. but maybe second hand and maybe not as top quality.

Cool map of the cycle routes, that is a good find. There is a hike and bike line that runs alongside the river... all across town that way... but the condition of it is not so nice in some of the parts. It does gets really nice when it gets into the Central Park.

Don't worry about that. It's all about the mission not the bits. If you want to bang around a mountain bike trail, then you're probably going to want some version of a double triangle frame so it holds together. if you want to have a bunch of carrying capacity on your frame as opposed to panniers or a trailer, then you probably want a bigger frame space for frame bags. If you can get on and off your bike more easily without lifting your leg up high due to hips, neuropathy, or just wearing regular pants, then get a step through and don't think for a second that anyone is going to think of it as a "girls" bike. We have so many (absurdly many?) names for bikes these days that "boys" and "girls" has kind of fallen by the wayside!
