75th Anniv. Paramount for the low. low price of . . . .

A 75th Anniversary Schwinn Paramount (built by Waterford in 2013) with an 80th Anniversary Campy gruppo is on the 'Bay for . . . wait for it . . . only $9,000. Shipping is free in the Lower 48.

See for yourself.

Not my size
No storage room for that many spacers
Black components on white bike with chrome lugs

Nice stuff poorly matched for maximum effect.
YMMV

Yes, that is unfortunate. Definitely not my style. Cool lugs, though.

Yeah, nice lugs, but pretty darn poor presentation. It's built up to give the impression it was far too small for the rider, particularly with lots of seatpost and stem spacers and the saddle pushed all the way back to the front of the rails. Plus, what's going on with that fork? Either make it straight blade or curved. This is somewhere in the ugly in between.

When did Paramount switch to sloping top tubes? I could almost forgive the threadless 1 1/8" steerer, but sloping top tube just ruins it for me.
Also- if they're going to make a sloping top tube, they should just make it obviously sloping, and not just a tiny bit sloping which is neither fish nor fowl.

I don't know whether it is "worth it" in the general sense - the unseen hand of the market will determine that.

However, I am quite certain that it is not worth it to me. And that is the market I care about.

Well , Rich, too bad it ain’t our size. No temptation for me even with free shipping! Really though, these ads, and I’ve seen a few , never cease to amaze me. I wonder if these bikes ever sell for close to asking price….hmmm

There will always be an outlier that will/can pay a ridiculous price for something that the "need". It's kind of like having bragging rights, having paid more for "EXCLUSIVITY " even if there are more out there like it.
High price has a cachet all its own and for me this is a prime example.....putting the high price on it and then negotiating makes for a "good" deal.
I would have bought it save for the sloping tube and the free shipping would have been a bonus.
Best, Ben

Several observations and I'm sure most of you know where I stand on Paramount's.

Glad it's not my size.

Only 25 made

Frame is gorgeous in its own way IMO.

Actually do like the Campy 80th group, had never seen it, obviously not working too well here as we see it.

Absolutely hate when someone uses another major brand component like the Specialized SP on something like this where it pokes you in the eye.

IRD bars and Soma stem, really, generic crap.

White Ind. hubs while cool as heck, hell no here.

I don't think you could spend much more money and get it so wrong.

I don't think I've ever seen bar tape like that. Reminds me of some of the old school tennis grips.

I do kinda like the seat lug, and the chrome seat and chain stays are a nice touch. The rest of it kinda assaults my sensibilities, especially the hodgepodge of parts, and the fork bend is a little funky, but that's just me. But just like there is somebody for everybody, I'm sure there will be someone who has to have it, and more power to them.

Like the others have said, this is a brutal look, triply so for nine freaking grand. All that money spent and we can't find matching spacers, even if there are 5,000 of them needed? and for almost any price, I am sure as h*ll not running 1) black wall tires 2) Gatorskins. Tan wall Vittoria Corsas or GP5000 tan/cream walls at minimum, if not straight up Rene Herse tires. I also appreciate paying $9000 for only one bottle cage boss set. Oofda.

Somehow Campagnolo thought to take a page from their Mirage line and have matte/satin black componentry. Looks low rent, like budget parts on a BSO or low-level OEM spec offering. And I agree on the fork blades, how? How do you split the difference between straight and Masi bend and end up with ugly? I don't think the 50/50 split between the chrome socks and paint helps--usually a no-no in this situation. Vintage Raleighs would have a chrome-to-paint ratio of over half. I always thought that looked a little weird.

If we take a look at the official Schwinn build and resulting photos, we realize this was not off to a good start. And I like Dura-Ace 9000 and Di2! Spacers, stem angle, handlebar profile (in a modern context) and lack of rake (saddle to bar drop) just sink this.

I found a photo of this bike built slightly differently. It looks a lot better here--much more cohesive, even if the steerer/stem/bars setup is FUBAR.

Interesting comments. I didn't expect so many unflattering comments about the bike itself.

Personally, I have nothing against the bike per se. I'm sure it rides very nicely, but it isn't my cup of tea and I don't want one in the same way I don't want one of the made-for-Eroica Bianchis, and that is purely a matter of my questionable taste. (I'm not a big fan of things that are made for the sole purpose of being collectable.) I started this thread because I did (and still do) think the asking price was, shall we say, a biiiiit of a stretch. Not as much of a stretch as the $40,000 Della Santa a few months back, but what is?

The asking price is 1/2 the reason why it’s so darn unappealing! $9,000!? Look at that “thing”!

The 80th anniv ensembles went at discount prices after the "Gotts Have it"
guys bought.
interestingly, one does not see them trading now.
on the way to year 100.
hope they still have a mechanical group by then and do something Special.
actually hope they are still run by the family.
Valentino is getting older now.

Well, yeah, the price is definitely too high, but what really bugs me about it, is the complete failure to plan parts, as far as the finish. Even I know you shouldn't mix black with chrome, and I'm halfways stupid, about road bikes. 😊🙃😋😉
