Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Only one of my three riders has double bottle mounts. One of them has none.
But if I did that, people might think I'm one of those triathletes, not a roadie. Can't have that.

Besides, I can barely manage being a uni-athete!

I wear ties for work.

About 15 years ago I bought a lot of 20 Jerry Garcia design ties from ScamBay, all nearly new/gently used, for $100 and they are all quite interesting so I rotate them. Apologies to Grateful Dead fans as I know these ties have very little to do with Jerry other than both being psychedelic, but I do like the designs.

edit: today’s tie

My bike skills are so bad you wouldn’t believe it. They’re much better now, but a year or two ago I was basically a rolling hazard with far too much speed for my skills.

Hoo boy don't I know it. Over Christmas/New Years we have a ~1 week shutdown. Most people (including me) typically take some vacation days as bookends around it so it's pretty easy to get 2 whole weeks off.

So tough to come back.

Field tech, meaning everything from plugging in cash registers to installing software and hardware on PCs to fixing a printer that had me elbows-deep in a giant HP that should have been handled by an HP tech but I was able to finagle this one spring back.

It was actually a really cool summer job.

Well, we finally put our tandem up for sale. We started tandeming in 1983 and our CoMotion Supremo was our dream tandem that we bought in 2015 and supposed to be the one that we rode off in to the sunset on. In a way, I hope it doesn't sell. It will be too tearful to hand it over to someone else.

That's why when I had my Trek modified, I had the framebuilder add a second set of bottle bosses on the seat tube, and a third set under the downtube.

Not that many people would confuse someone riding a steel frame 650b bike with fenders as a triathlete, but you just can't be too careful with things like that.

The part that would give me pause is fenders; not much need for those in Texas.

They're riding the ragged edge of superfluity here, especially in this year's very dry summer, but they certainly complete the look of the bike.

use 1 hand to hold the empty bottle + bars, while using you free hand to swap placement of the other bottle. You could also just wait to swap at a stop sign/stoplight..

My Domane is so stable at speed, that hands free riding is no problem.

Even though last week's heat wave made me think summer might be drawing to a close, this morning it was cold and foggy, so I'm pretty sure it's still summer.

It is supposed to get down into the mid 90s this weekend before going back to 100+ next week. I hate it. I've always hated summer here.

OR . . . stuff the empty down your jersey and make the swap. Am I missing something?

It was a little over 90 in MSP the last two days. Only 85° today, thankfully. Looks like it'll cool off for the next 7-10 days, which suits me just fine.
