Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah, I was thinking about looking up some rides that had some tank-emptying efforts and doing just that. Kinda scared to look, though.

A friend of mine in his 70's tried climbing a tree for the first time in decades, and tore tendons in his shoulders, which probably can't ever be repaired. I would like to avoid this type of thing, if possible.
How is this "hanging by the arms" thing done? Is there apparatus involved?

It's very high tech. You need to find yourself a horizontal tree branch. Or a cheap doorway pull up bar will work too.

Thinking of doing a fall color ride about an hour and a half away in WI here in the next couple of weeks, so I looked at next weekend's forecast.

I've now got a set of arm warmers, knee warmers, and a gilet on the way

It's the BEST preventative, but not the ONLY preventative. The other one is 'Lift with your Legs'.

I was bent over tightening a nut, no twisting or anything, just came up lame. Feels much better today, but not better enough to ride.

Maybe a month or so ago I mentioned that an outside counsel of ours was ill with COVID. Just learned that he died.

Well the app gave me something like 18,000 J and it looks about right. 5000 might be low.

Southern Kettle or elsewhere? Colors look to be near peak now. No need for any of that today through Tuesday

Looked at a ride from a week ago where a young lady in a car goaded me in to racing her uphill. At 20,000, it put me negative on that effort. 24,000 left me with a little buffer (that I then ate in to a minute or so later, getting down to 1.9kJ), so maybe that's a good starting point?

Out in New Glarus towards Yellowstone.

I was thinking about doing it tomorrow but I think I'll need to adjust my gearing beforehand. 39/28 isn't going to cut it for that one I don't think.

This morning I got a 50/34 crank back from my buddy who I'd lent it to but never did anything with it. I'm planning on installing it tonight, but the little voice in my head that I believe to be reason is telling me to get some local miles on it before I head way out of town.

Gonna have some Spotted Cow?

Looks like a nice ride! And yeah, prolly a good idea to see see if any kinks need to be worked out before going far afield.

Found another ride with a 27k depletion effort. I guess that it makes sense that the, uh, battery can vary from day to day.

I wasn't impressed the first time I had it, so much so that I thought that something was amiss and made a point of trying it again at a later date. Wasn't impressed the second time either. Credit to the marketing department.

Indeed.

They've worked their magic on my parents, that's for sure.
