Well, I did leave about half a dozen on the peg board at REI. Someone else grabbed the rest.
I'm betting a next-tier manufacturer like SunRace or one of the many anonymous China based makers will pick up the design, licensed or unlicensed, and continue providing an equivalent to the BB UN55. Heck, SunRace might make it even better than Shimano did. The better chromed SunRace freewheels and cassettes are really good, much better tooth shapes for crisp shifting and smooth running. Most of my Suntour and Shimano freewheels and cassettes are in boxes, in case the SunRace equivalents wear out or break.

I started off by buying a tent, thinking car camping would be a good, safe idea for a small group of friends. Then needed sleeping bag and pad, of course. Then, being a gear nerd, I found myself building an entire backpacking setup, down to a titanium spoon. Not a bug out bag per se, but I’m now ready to camp/hike at a moment’s notice. Not super useful, being stuck in Chicago- but hey.

Oh I also quit drinking during covid- that’s sort of the opposite of stocking up on things, but it’s been a thing.

I read this thread and thought to myself, "it can't be true." Then I went to purchase a set of Tires (Schwable) and tubes --- can't get them anywhere! Supply chain has really been affected by COVID!

Nothing hoarded here either. I actually sold some parts and three bikes. With all the frenzy about bikes and bike stores getting cleared out of bikes I thought I part with a few bikes I don't ride anymore, so someone else can ride as well. But it took me while to sell them. Not because of price but probably because my bikes don't always meet the standard taste of most bike riders. Plus they were all large frame bikes for tall riders.
