Purpose built in 1974 is great.
I'm surprised there aren't more examples - yes there are several nice examples on this thread.
Hybrid gearing made total sense for a way to keep your postwar pathracer and also have a touring bike - in one.
A few nice examples turn up on the internet.

Sheldon even gave an example of more gears with a modern IGH.

Too many beautiful bikes in this thread.
Figured I'd add my 1951 Raleigh Lenton Sports with a Sturmey Archer FW rear hub into the mix.

That's a very attractive machine. I have an identical Lenton Sports frame and fork and most of the parts to build something similar. I think you've just inspired me to do so.

I love this thread! I'll add my 1947 Hobbs of Barbican Clubweight - it's set up with a Sturmey Archer 3-speed drivetrain. I still need to clean up another flip-flop single-speed/fixed gear set up at some point ...

Here's one I've been working on (off and on) lately. I don' t think I've shown it here before.
It's an Armstrong Moth frame from about 1950. It came to me with neither headbadge nor decals, so I made these decals based in part on Auchencrow's Armstrong, if anyone remembers that one!
At present it's built up with approximately correct 1950's parts including GB Coureur brakes and Scheeren stem, alloy shell AW hub, and a dynohub in the front wheel. I intend to rebuild with an ordinary steel hub when I have a moment; I don't think I need lights on this bike.
At first I thought I'd build it up as a 1930's bike, with a Lauterwasser bar, shorter GB girder stem, and Resilion brakes. But I don't have a good cable for the rear brake, so this didn't work out well.

My English Club Bike
I love the bikes in this thread, so I thought maybe we could revive it. While patiently waiting for a bike like my 1958 Birmingham built Sun Cresta to come along, I acquired a '71 Robin Hood drop bar "Sports Model" 3 speed which is a fine bike but the Sun is more the iconic British Lightweight. While on a Sunday morning solo ride last fall a group of plastic bike guys invited me to join their morning ride. As nice as the RH is, it can't run with those guys.
The Sun is all original and runs a single Williams CR and a Benelux RD shifting up and down a 14T to 22T five speed freewheel. The Robin Hood SA AW hub was switched from a 18T to 21T cog to suit my riding.

Here is my 1951 Hobbs of Barbican, bought new by my Wife's Dad for a tour of the Loire Valley (see image) with his sister Pam (she had a similiar which I have) and friends.
Peter, Wife's Dad is on the left of the photo.
John.
N.B bicycle currently running an 80s chainset (SR track) while original Williams is being rechromed. Ditto seatpost. It is running the original saddle, bars, stem, hubs and NoS Blumels 'guards. I have just sourced NoS Weinmanns to replace the original, very worn ones.

I have lots of inspirational photos of this type of bike and it seems that there is always one around the shop to inspire and motivate me.

This is still one of my favorite threads full of beautiful bikes and think it needs a good bump. While I've posted it before, here is my 1951 Raleigh Lenton Sports back in May of this year.
