Without a doubt, after seeing that, I'd prefer a Taylor from that period. Wouldn't turn down an earlier Cinelli.

The Taylor gents are hardcore!

I don't know that much about Cinelli, but I look forward to the day I finish my '79 Jack Taylor 650b tandem project. Their history of handbuilding cycles & accessories is quite impressive, but after 9,000+ frames they've discontinued their great works. Norman (The framebuilder) has passed on, but Ken & Jack are still about in the UK. I would love to get mine overseas to the York Rally for their 75th Anniversary!

One brother makes reference to having built 8,300 frames and lamenting they probably won't reach 10,000. At one point, one of the brothers speaks distastefully of the American bike boom which increased their orders to a dizzying pace. Near the end, one notes that he doesn't like progress much, because really it's just change and doesn't necessarily make things better.
Some great stuff! Now I really want a Jack Taylor. I had no idea they were so unassuming.

They've built some interesting frames, from curved tubes to flying gates & low profiles... In the mid 50s a photographer approached them with some design specs for a Rough Stuff cycle, and they put together an early version of the mountain bike in Highpath tradition. I have one of their camper trailers, and a Rann trailerbike project in the works too. Ultimately, I'm all in for a Super Tourist 1/2 bike & early curved tube model with track ends. I've met some interesting folks who are insatiably addicted to acquiring these frames in their size, and am thankful my ideal frame is just a bit larger. 8]
