Aleira? I hadn't heard of that one. Sounds like a Portuguese last name. Posted for posterity.

thanks very much for posting
agree that it looks and sounds to be of Lusitanian origin
unfortunately name is not included in this partial list or marques received from a new (at the time) Portugal based member -

Hi, I didn't bag this unit and hadn't intended to. This was a post intended to archive for anyone's future reference.

There are a number of references to “Alfira” on the web, and this looks like one of those. I think the seller mistakenly named it as Aleira.

Legend In My Own Mind
It's "Alfira". Shamelessly stolen from elswhere on the Internet: "Alfira is not Dutch but almost - it's from West Germany! It's short for ALbert FIscher RAd. They were relatively cheap but mostly good quality and elegant. They used a lot of imported parts from Japan (unusual for Germany at the time) and the GDR. They were popular from about 1975 to 1990, especially at the tail end of the 80s. Yours is from around '85. A date code (something like IV 85) should be stamped on the back side of the electric generator's hinge."

Hi Ray, the guy flipping is someone who will turn over whatever he can get. He has had that bike up for sale for quite a while now. You seem to know quite a bit about that particular brand. I'd never heard of it before.

My response was just a cut-and-paste off the 'Net. I know nothing about these things. I see he has relisted it, still at the same price. I'm somewhat interested myself because I the accessories on it are nifty. But I'm not sure his asking price is reasonable...

Right you are Ray. If it were to sell at that price it would've 9 months ago.
