Experimenting with bike race photography

I've done a fair amount of photography but usually a totally different sort. Trying different things during a bike competition last weekend.

The 1st couple of shots were taken with a very wide angle lens. "Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear."

very nice, The only thing I have to compare it to, are the hundred or so B and W shots of the original Red zinger (was later the coors classic)that I found in the darkroom the other day

I like the WA, and also the pan shot (#6). You don't see enough of any technique that requires skill/practice in these days of instant gratification point and shoot.

Great start to the effort! Keep looking for the unique POV and you will go far with this! As a working photographer I can promise you searching for the unique POV will pay dividends!! Keep your images clean, in focus, free of distractions and exposed properly. Practice Practice Practice!!

Here are some I took back in 2006 (probably the first and last time I did a bike race). Maybe next year I'll find time to get back to the races and shoot again, it was fun.

I would say to the OP, get closer to your subject. If you use a wide angle then you have to really frame the rider so we know who the subject is. Shooting riders from behind is usually not very interesting unless the environment is what you want to show. Faces are what makes a shot compelling. Keep shooting! Photographing bike races is fun!
