Let's see your frost beards
Frost beards are much like snowflakes, no two are identical.
Here's Monday's frost beard, -12 to -8F, 16 miles took nearly 90 minutes

By the way, this is an all inclusive frost beard threads. For example, here is a clean shaven frost beard ... and great eyelashes, felt like some kinda glamour girl. This ride was January 2015 at -13F, 10 miles to work took about an hour.

I had the same frost beard when I drove around 20 miles in the breezy, chilled and frosty snowflake weather. It was the best ever experience I had. But after that it was very difficult to manage my bike as well as my beards. I actually pursued the useful source which made my beards back to normal and a good repairing for my bike.
Amazing experience!

-28*F 13-mile ride took about 1 hour 20 minutes. Never felt cold, goggles were on when on bike trails and off when on roads.

30 miles in sub-zero temps, as low as -18F and up to -2F by the end of the ride.

That's a big NOPE from me, but well done. What did you get with your prize money?
Nice thing about my velo is that even when it's cold outside, it generally stays right around 40F in the velo once I get warmed up (my computer has a temp reading on it).

Everything I never wanted to see. I’m too wimpy to ride below 28 degrees without my 45Nrth full face balaclava. Unless it’s a short .6 mile ride to the grocery store or gym.

Wanna get this thread back to the top of lists! And get some others contributing ... or is this Toad the only one that bikes in cold??
I got out on Jan 2 for 20 miles with temps -13 to -6 F. Mostly warm and comfortable ... my toes suffer because I need to upgrade my boots for the sub-zero stuff.

GCN set me up with £50 credit with Wiggle. I got myself a summer base layer (kinda ironic) and some Knog Binder lights.
In 2023, I plan to race the Arrowhead 135, so when our temps drop below 0F, I'm out for training rides.

Close to frost beard time. This was last February at a balmy 22f. My record is -4f when left house. 16 mile one way commute. I’m known as that crazy bike nut around here

Frost Beard ?. Jesus Christ, it was something like 79 today in NYC, all time high for the date. I'm in shorts on tomorrows ride for sure, going to be 75 or so. Going to be a while if at all this winter before I see a frost beard.

This was yesterday, 20 miles with air temps start at 0°F/-18°C and dropping below -5°F/-20°C on the way home. This is nothing when compared with my friends on the Arrowhead 135 course yesterday (& today), their start line temp was -28°F/-33°C ... and funny to say, I think I'm finally ready to join them in 2024 at the International Falls start line!
