For clarification, the OP (Jim Merz) is a well known somebody in the bike business. He has a story that starts with "when I was at Tulio's wake..."

Yes, I worked as chief designer/engineer for Specialized Bicycles from 1982 until 1990. I went back to work for them as head of the prototype shop in 2002 until I retired in 2008.

Jim is also currently the maker of ultra-cool replacement parts for vintage bikes, like titanium bolts to replace the steel ones in Campy derailers, seatposts and such. Some hard-to find steel bits like the cage-rotation-stop screw for a 1965 Campy Record derailer, or bolts for the old steel Cinelli stems. See his ebay for some of his wares.

He even made his own Cinelli Bivalent hub sets — from scratch — don't ask what those cost, you can't afford it! Maybe he'll share pics of his Exxon Graftek where every steel part has been replaced with Ti on the Campy gruppo. Even the springs on the brakes are Ti, and the eccentric and lever for the QR on the brakes.

Here's my NR/SR/Rally hybrid that Jim made at my request, with upper and lower pivot bolts in Ti:

I was going to post that everyone needs to step aside so they arent run over by merziac as he pushes to the front of the line. But I am late to the party.

Seriously though, this is neat- having framebuilders here, on paceline, and elsewhere is a really neat part of the community and hobby.

The idea of Portlandjim having the word "Newbie" next to his moniker is a bit . . . what's the right word . . . oxymoronic. Yeah, that's it. The idea of Portlandjim having the word "newbie" next to his moniker is oxymoronic.

Welcome to C&V, Jim. C'mon in and set a spell.

At the risk of losing Jim after his first post here, here's a link to a thread you'll never see on the CR list.

Forgive us, this is the dive bar of vintage bicycle worshippers.

Well gee, tx guys but despite having so very little self control as we all well know, I will refrain from my normal derail program until we get rolling here and see if Jim wants to drive the train or have a free for all.

Ready, aim..........
