Addiction 2022.2

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Similar; just lots of trauma from contact sports and car wreck. Bottom disc looked like a tiny sliver that was sitting ontop of a nerve making my life absolutely terrible. I only had the disc trimmed; I have had a couple of friends that were weight lifters in their 20's that have had artificial disc replacement and they have nothing but good things to say about it. Hopefully that is on the menu for you...

Now I'm signing up for a 22 mile 13mph ride? Gotta get the rust off the training wheels somehow I suppose.

I do hope Canyon responds with a tried and true stem brand so I can shorten this thing up a touch and turn it into a beach cruiser.

Back in Spring of 2021, I started buying C&V bikes. My first purchase was a 1989 Schwinn Circuit, with its Columbus tubing, chrome fork and chain and seat stays, and Sante groupset. I thought at the time I overpayed a bit, $450, but it turned out that the bike had ALL the original bits in good condition, including the barely-used original Rolls saddle - and they go for $70 and up in Ebay! So, in the end, I didn't mind over paying just a little, even if the frame is kinda small and required a new seatpost and 130mm stem to fit me.

Maybe 6 months later, another 1989 Circuit pops up on Ebay, this time in my size. But they want $800, and $200 for shipping. And that bike has been languishing there for close to a year now. They have the option of making an offer, but I doubt they'd take what I'd offer.

Last week, someone listed ANOTHER Circuit on Ebay, also my size. This one's listed for $1200.

This morning, someone else listed YET ANOTHER Circuit, again in 23". This one's listed for $1800!

In watch collecting, we used to see this sometimes. You won't see any listings of a particular watch for years, and then one gets listed and suddenly there's a bunch of them listed. We call it "Monkey See, Monkey Do".
Whole lotta dreamers out there. If they start selling, I hope the market price shift trickles down to Tempos too!

I paid $160 for mine, and am tempted to sell it.

$1800 is serious 'Colnago in perfect condition with full Super Record' territory.

I've not seen signing up for a ride at a specific speed. What happens if you go 14 mph?

Reminds me of the pacers at a marathon, but you don't sign up with one.

I'm gonna assume that these are for a HALF marathon, since the world record is 2:01:39....

Had purchased a couple of cheap stems; $30 and $40 Ritchie and some other brand to fit the Canyon; no dice at advertised sizing; the stems were WAY too small. LBS just now only had an overpriced ZIPP stem at correctly advertised sizing. Fit perfect; no issues. What a world.

If that's the only one that fit among those available, then it is not overpriced. The cheaper ones are just not up to spec.

Nice rocky creek shore, but a paucity of good skipping stones.
