Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

June 1 begins Hurricane season. June 2 and we have a tropical depression in the Gulf, hitting western Cuba this time. Western Cuba is a stone's throw from the eastern coast of the peninsula. Let's just call it a fluke, starting up so quickly this year.

I don't have a 'like' button today. Otherwise this post would have received one, instead of this quote.

The little woman bought a box of mini-donuts at Costco the other day. Can't eat just one.

It got hot. Ride start was 60F but by end it was 86 and I am not quite heat acclimated yet. It’s going up to 93 today but should cool down for the weekend.

Sure feels like July. Velo Vol

That's because you've been spoiled by riding the Lemond lately. It's an unfair competition, Lemonds are great bikes

I don't feel as bad as I had imagined. It's hard to differentiate the pain from my arse being unaccustomed to a bike seat and my nerve pain. I think I'm going to give it a go again tonight. Don't know if I'll shut it down early due to the pain becoming too unbearable. One positive is I don't feel bad in my legs so I didn't burn too much lactic acid yesterday. Some day I might be come a cyclist instead of a poser.

We're in Southern Missouri and despite being cooler than home (80s vs. 90s) the humidity is higher. Only did 26 hilly miles this morning on the tandem but we're exhausted.

Starting a new war on weight today. It’s not so much the weight, I’m only 8 lbs over my norm, but it’s the disgusting (to me) gut. I gotta do better than this.

Today’s breakfast: protein smoothie with blueberries , strawberries, raspberries and banana .
Today’s lunch: Cobb salad.

That leaves plenty of room for Friday night excesses tonight.

I'm in bureaucratic hell.

When I applied for a passport they said it would take 8-11 weeks to process. Eleven weeks lapsed earlier this week. On the status checker site, nothing has changed at all.

If you call the designated phone number, a majority of the time the machine just says "we're too busy, try again later." I've tried in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The times I did get through to be put on hold, the estimated wait time was 2+ hours, and I couldn't wait that long.

SMH.

We had concerns with Heidi’s passport. Research suggests if you have an urgent need contact your local US Representative’s office and they can put a rush on it.

Where are you going??
