So I am making the move from flat Florida to hilly NC. Here is my current road bike:

I would also like to upgrade the wheelset (multiple broken spokes over the years) and am thinking of this wheelset.

At the same time, I am thinking of replacing the cassette (for the new wheelset) to 11/32 (plus to help with hill climbing)

After all is said and done.

1. Is this the correct combo?
2. The front chainring is 50/39/30 (Does this need to be changed?)
3. Will I need to change the chain?
4. Will I need to change the rear derailleur?

Are there any questions I am not asking or is there a better setup? I can do the work, I just don't know number crunching and combos...

Of course after I post this.....I find my answers......its a whole drivetrain change along with shifters, etc....looks like a new bike is the answer

I was going to guess that you might be able to go up a couple of teeth, say 28, without much problem other than maybe a new chain. Maybe 30 with a longer B screw.

With a new RD, you should be able to use the old shifters, but they aren't the best quality for such an investment in wheels and components. (I have the same, I'm not knocking it.)

Yeah...the more I am looking into it, I think just replacing the wheelset with something that works with my 9 speed is the way to go. Then I'm thinking of just making this the rain/winter bike. I didn't even think about the quality of the shifters mated with the other components until you mentioned it, thanks, you are 100% correct.

I think after riding this thing for almost 10 years, its time for an upgrade....what's one more bike

It seems that you already have a triple crank set up with a 30 tooth, combined with the 26 tooth in the back that's pretty low. Why not get to the new location and see how it works? No comment on the wheels, but how about a standard 32 spoke set up built by a local shop? Just my couple of cents worth of thought.

Thanks Steelman54, that's what I needed to read (stuff I don't think about). Good point, I'll poke around when I get there and find a shop.
