Greetings from Queens!
Hello BFers!
Long-time stalker of the forums here who finally decided to pony up and become active. Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone who has shared their knowledge here on the Forums over the years, and who continue to make BF probably the most indispensable cyclopedia on this much-abused World Wide Web. I join BF in hopes that I can learn and interact directly with this great community - and maybe even contribute myself, however modestly!
A little about me: I'm a professional German translator and editor living on the bleeding edge of the Brooklyn/Queens border. While I've always been a bit contrary and free-thinking in my cycling tastes, the pandemic (with its armies of pro peloton LARPers clad in 4-figure lycra kits riding 5-figure WiFi sleds) has admittedly accelerated my inevitable transformation into a retrogrouch of sorts. My only complete road bike at the moment has downtube shifters and rust spots on the toptube, and I couldn't be happier! I'm getting rando-curious and rapidly accumulating a collection of wool jerseys. It feels great!
So, naturally, I thought I would just further seal the deal and join Bike Forums. Especially because, the more I look around, the less and less I recognize what first attracted me to cycling in the first place. That is, the culture and history of that storied machine: the velocipede. I hope to find and learn from others who feel similarly, and I know I've come to the right place!
