Shimano 105 2 X 8 questions.
Has anyone run a Shimano FD-1055 double front derailleur with a 46-30t crankset and/or a Shimano RD-1056SC long cage rear derailleur with an 11-30t or 11-32t 8 speed cassette? I'm wondering how the FD would handle the smaller big ring, I've run one with a 48 and had no issues but I may be pushing the envelope at 46.
I know the max tooth count for the large cog on the cassette is 28t for the RD but we all know Shimano likes to play it safe so I'm fairly certain the 11-30t will work and 30t is probably as big as I'll really need. I have both and I like to keep my options open. Although I don't really need an 11t small cog 12 or 13 would probably be more than adequate so a new cassette may be on the menu anyway. The rear will be index shifting using Shimano 8 speed SIS compatible barcons with the option of friction on the RH shifter.
This is for my Fuji Suncrest 650B conversion project if anyone is curious.

IIRC, I've been running this setup with a 52-42-30 triple and a 13-30 7-speed freewheel with those derailleurs. While not apples to apples, it's close to the same.

Have a 52/39 front on my Miyata using that (or very similiar) 105 LC RD on the back. I have a Sunrace 7 speed 11-32 and it works a treat. Gear gaps are fairly wide but I am not racing so its a great shifting setup.

I can't comment on the Shimano rear, but I have had no trouble running Shimano and Campag. front derailleurs on smaller-than-intended front rings. I have a 45T outer on the Peugeot with a Shimano TItlist, and 46T outers on Campag. fronts on the 1959 Capo and the Bianchi. I run 46-38 on those bikes, but a larger gap shouldn't be a problem.

I think the only issue is whether the front derailleur clears the chainstay. With under bb cable run it should be fine.

UPDATE: Plenty of clearance. have some concersn about the chain rubbung when on the 30t small ring and the smaller cogs in back though. I'm not going to b able to go too small on the cassette, I'm think 14t will be it.
