Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Uggh, I was hanging out with old friends who have 11 kids yesterday. Only 7 of the kids were there, but still...

I just had a huge serving of very spicy panamg curry, perhaps that will ward it off.

And, that is where the Domane down tube storage is really nice. Everything I need fits in there. Only thing I need to put in the pocket is my phone.

Friend showed up with a bag similar to this one day. I think he had a bunch of rain gear in it.

Funny, I don't really notice those burrito bar bags. I don't have one but people I ride with do and they are unobtrusive, imho.
I always have a seatpack on the road but I need more room than those tiny ones have. When we used to go into the mountains sometimes I would even wear a Camelbak for the water storage. I tried wearing it to carry a big jacket when it was cold but went back to stuffing the pockets with layers.

First off, I don't wear my jerseys that tight. Second, I use the center rear pocket so that I have room in the left pocket for Jimmy Johns Gargantuan sub and the right for a 20oz. bottle of coke.

That jersey is actually a size too large for me now - the bag o' beans is the only reason it's that tight

If it's chilly, I often carry an empty wide mouth water bottle to cram tights, arm warmers or anything else I can force in there. Where I live, a single 550ml water bottle will carry you to the next water stop on almost any ride. Makes that second water bottle cage a handy storage location.
Well, you’re also from the days when a bag was a tubular in an old sock held on with a toe strap with maybe a dime for a phone call thrown in. I seem to remember us (elites) looking down on anyone who actually used a “bag,” which, now that I think about it, is where the scrotum thing came from.

You may even be old enough to have had pockets on the fronts of your jerseys!

Luckily, they're not the least bit prone to thinking "We'll ride this one out", so they've been preparing for a solid week and are ready to bug out if need be.

I like the look of a clutter free seatpost and handlebars, but I feel safer with the Varia and the taillight on the back and a flashie light in front, and as long as I have the Varia it needs to display someplace so I have a head unit, too. And I could forgo a saddle bag, but I'd have to stash the same volume - and mass - of that stuff in my jersey pockets, and frankly, that looks worse to me than a small, neat saddle bag.

EDIT: And from the saddle, I can't see it anyway. Stuff in my jersey pockets, I can feel.

My sock bag also had a hex key for adjusting the seat post or centering the Campy brakes. Also, it was a fiver, not a dime.

My jerseys were wool, shorts too, but my pockets were in the back until I rode low racers.

My first jersey, circa 1976, was cheap, scratchy, wool and had a front pocket, maybe two, with (a) button(s). Ah, yes, a hex key for sure. If I had folding money, I tucked it up in the leg of my shorts with my house key.

Our first day of state sponsored not obligatory masking. I went into my accountant's office, masked, and found him unmasked. Then to the vet, unmasked, and found them masked. Costco was about 25% unmasked, including me. Liberating.
