I always measure chain stays center of BB to about where the seat stay axis intersects the center of dropout slot, along the stay. Maybe that's wrong, I'm no framebuilder, but it seems to comport well enough with available specs on bikes that I have. Much easier with a vertical dropout, of course, but there's only one of those in my hoard.

For those keeping score, my 71 International and my 70 Mk I both sport 17" stays by that methodology.

Doesn't look like I'll have too much trouble moving this along, if it comes to that. The progress report so far - I've cleaned, polished, and have done a little touch-up on the frame and fork. Headset and bottom bracket have fresh bearings and grease. I'm waiting for a NOS Weinmann front cable hanger to arrive, the old one was too far gone to re-use. So I'm in to it to the tune of $18.00 so far.

1974 Raleigh International
Picked this gem up just before the world went to hell. She started her life as a campus bike in Michigan before making her way east to a yard sale in Connecticut. Wish I had been the one to find it at the yard sale rather than the guy I bought it from (who made a nice profit from his 10 dollar investment). Someone was kind enough to outfit her with Phil Wood hubs along the way.

'74 I picked up a few years ago, disassembled and let sit. Finally got around to building it back up. The copper paint darkened on this one but there are places on the frame where the original hue still comes through.

Thanks BFisher. I wasn't sure about it at first as I'd always lusted after the copper hue, but the look has grown on me. It is distinctive. I have a 58cm model still in pieces awaiting its turn at resurrection but that one I'll move on once done. It's the right copper color and in my size range, but lately I've found I'm more comfortable on the taller bikes and age has tamped down (though not extinguished) some of my lusts.

Maybe I'm just a city slicker but I find it interesting to note that there appear to be bison grazing behind PilotFishBob's International and we're carrying on about color and lugs.

This was at Shelby Farms Park here in Memphis, about 15 minutes or so away from me by bike via the Greenline, one of our rails-to-trails projects. They have a herd of 15 or so bison they take care of, sometimes when they're grazing near a fence and I'm not in a hurry I'll pull over and watch for a minute or two.

Hello!
My first road bike was a 1980 Super Course 12 so of course I was immediately attracted to Raleighs of the era. The owner of the LBS I started going to had a couple of copper Internationals and that essentially became the dream C&V bike for me for quite some time... I bought and sold one frameset years ago due to a lack of funds to build it up, and finally purchased another frameset at Eroica CA this year. Alas, since then I also purchased my first modern bicycle in a while and that set me back rather seriously, so I purposely built up this frame as a fixed gear using mostly parts that I had on hand (some already reserved specifically for the International) and have put it up for sale in the classified section. It's a 1972 with all the wonky quality control issues like poor filing and brazing and sloppy lug lining, but it has the charm! I keep staring at it while it's still sitting here in the study before I take it to storage until it's sold...
Someday I'll have an International to keep!

I have been watching for a 1971 or 1972 24.5" Chartreuse International to pop up for a while. Finally found one yesterday. It is supposed to arrive next Thursday. I can't wait.

You did see the dent in the seatstay, I hope. Other than that, it looks like a great project. Even has the headset - so many of these are parted out down to the bare frame and fork for the Campy components, then it costs a fortune to bring them back to the great bikes they are.

I put some 700c wheels with Pasela 35’s on them and the bottom bracket height is about 290mm. Most of my bikes are closer to 270-275 mm. Is that common on Internationals?

My '74 Int measures 10 1/4" at the BB (that's 260mm for those insisting on a rational system of measurement)
Of course, this is with 700 x 25 tires that actually measure closer to 23mm with the Mavic MA-2 rims.
I've got a Hetchins with a 11" BB with 700 x 25 tires (that actually measure 25mm). That seems really high to me. Can't imagine riding a BB that's significantly higher.
For context, my International has a 24 1/2" frame.

The Int'l is usually thought of as having a low BB compared to other road frames of its era. Is that 290mm from the ground to the center of the crank?

For the record, it is a 24.5” frame. Serial number is F7561.
