Thai Bike Museum

If you are ever in the North of Thailand close to Chiang Rai there is an English guy named Alan Bates settled there who's claim to fame is that he circumnavigated the globe by bicycle in record time. There was a technicality that prevented him from being entered into the Guiness Book of Records so he did a second circumnavigation breaking his original record. For his efforts he was also given recognition by the King of Thailand, I was fortunate enough to meet up with Alan at his home/cafe/museum & would highly recommend a visit. - https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/352...-chiang-khong/

Fantastic place, and our own @rhm has a close family connection with it.

Nobody's mentioned the Bisby Bike Brothel.

A place that might be called a museum, but is just a personal collection, is Bob Freeman's just a short ride from northbend

Velocult was part museum, and we still mourn the loss in Portland.

The bike in the top photo is mine, "Breezer #2" on loan to the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame/Marin Museum of Bicycling. Curator is Joe Breeze, who built it and who shared 40 years of bicycling adventures with me. His personal bike, "Breezer #1 " is in the Smithsonian. Joe is the most knowledgeable person I have ever met on bicycle history. In 2017 he and i visited several interesting transportation museums in UK. Most interesting was Coventry, which was a bicycle manufacturing center in the 19th Century.

In addition to the bicycles on display, the Marin Museum has also collected an amazing library of bicycling books.

(those interested in aviation should make sure to visit the Flugwerft Schleissheim, a truly amazing air and space collection located on the edge of town)

The "Technikmuseum Sinsheim" close to Heidelberg as a mindblowing affair in itself, and hosts a nice cycling collection as well. (Yes, that is a Tu144 in front of the concorde, and not a scale model either. They also have a "Buran")

If you're looking for the fuzzy far-out fringe of bicycles, the San Jose Museum of Innovation has a couple record-setting HPV's. I'm not sure if they are still there- here's a couple photos I took a few years ago:

While not a true museum, the Eroica weekend in Cambria is an orgy of cool old bikes. Be sure to stop in Linn's, besides great food and pies, the restaurant is owned and run by a cyclist, and has some of his great bikes on display. The swap meet and Concours on the day before the ride is like a pop up museum, not to be missed. Of course the ride itself is like a rolling museum of bikes ridden, not trapped inside a building.

That purple-ish Bertoni ^^^^^ has aero brake levers! Have the authorities been alerted?

Or did they finally come to their senses about such minutiae, esp. on features that DID ship on NEW bikes BITD?

The musée d’art et d’industrie in Saint Etienne,France, had an amazing collection last time I was there
Parcours Cycles | Musée d'Art et d'Industrie de Saint-Etienne

Supposedly the town where the first bike in France was produced, also birthplace or home of Manufrance, dural, stronglight, vitus, motobecane, etc. They had a nice collection spanning 1880s to today.
i can try and dig out some pictures.

Aero brake cable routing is now allowed, the year after I converted my Legnano back to top exit Universal levers. 20 years ago I got a deal on Campy aeros, cheaper than replacement Universal hoods. Now, if they would only relax the dreaded toe clip requirement ...

So this is maybe a weird one, but we occasionally head up to Maine, and the Owls Head Transportation Museum has a small section of older bikes that's actually worthwhile if you're into the history! I was really surprised to see when I got there, but they apparently cover every kind of transportation out there. The kids really enjoyed getting a ride in a a crank-up car.

Samples of the types of stuff I saw there:
Our Collection - Bicycles | Owls Head Transportation Museum

Granted, what you'll see there is almost all pre-WWII but I distinctly recall there were half a dozen more-modern samples ('60s - '90s) when we went 3-4 years ago.
