Oh heck why not me too - show us your Bottecchia

Just picked up one off of Facebook MarketPlace.
It has Campy Cranks and Seatpost (probably the only things left of its original specs). first gen Dura Ace Derailleur, Brakes and Brake Levers. the Pedals are Phil Wood CHP's . Seat is Unicantor, Stem is 3TTT and bars are Fiamme.
Pieces that are not time frame correct are the Suntour Symmetric Shifters, Araya gold Ano wheels and the Shimano 6400 Bottom Bracket.
Frame was repainted and most of the decal were gone except for a masked off down tube decal. it has a rifled steer tube and worn but Campagnolo dropouts F/R. which understand would make this either a Giro D Italia, or a Professional.
Some wisdom from the Botty folks would be appreciated.

When I was a freshman at Iowa State University I lived in the dorms and my RA (resident assistant) had the most beautiful bike I had ever seen. A red and white Bottecchia with the newest Shimano Dura-Ace STI 8-spd group on it. I would stare at that bike for ages. I only had a lowly TREK 1000 with Suntour Blaze on it. My college friends all said to upgrade to Ultegra or Dura Ace! Yeah right . . . on a college student budget? Anyways, I did not know what a Bottecchia was, except it was the most beautiful bike I had ever seen with all that chrome
Fast forward to early January 2020. I am preparing to ride Eroica for a second time on my trusty Bridgestone RB-1, but always looking for an Italian ride to use instead when I spot an ad for a Bottecchia similar to what Greg Lemond used during the 1989 Tour. It was a mix of period correct Campagnolo for a great price but the seller also said that he might be willing to sell the components and the frame separately. I contacted him and bought the frame of my 1991 dreams!
As you know, Eroica got cancelled this spring. It may happen this fall, it may not. Therefore, I bought a set of non-working polished Chorus 10 speed Ergo shifters and will swap the insides of my spare carbon Record shifters to make the Chorus ones work. Either that or procure a set of Campagnolo C record brake levers. The brake levers I have on their now, Suntour Superbs are great but SMALL for my hands. Maybe the C Record's are bigger. I already put better stoppers than the Dia Compe Royal Gran Comps shown in the pictures (Campagnolo Record 10 speed calipers).
The only thing I would change is get a smaller size. This is a 53 and I normally ride a 50cm, Not used to having the top tube so high.
One question . . . can anyone confirm the year of this frame. I am guessing it is 1987, only because another forum member has a similar bike and said his was a 1987 model year. Anyone have proof? Thanks!
Here it is:
Other than the pedals, it is Eroica ready!
My first SLX frame!
I guess in the USA it is called TEAM Bottecchia. In Europe I believe it is called Squadra
Made BEFORE LeMond won the 89 TdF.
Gotta clean that chrome.
Chrome . . .
More chrome . . .
Columbus chrome . . .
Love the head badge

This is also a SLX with a pre Cinelli spoiler BB shell. The serial number is 3309 (if I see it right). I think around 3500 they started using the spoiler shell. The Columbus SLX sticker is also the previous version, with the inscription Columbus at the bottom. This changed around 87-88. The same goes for fork stickers. Here, a small SL sticker with a blue frame was added to the red SLX frame sticker. The brake cable routed outside the upper tube, this was later used only for frames made for direct competition purposes. For sure, this is an early SLX.

OLD FIRELEG - Thanks for the extra bit of information about the Columbus decals. I did not know that. Also the information about the rear brake cable routing being on the outside for competition models. I always wondered about that as I seen that frames were this way in the 1989 Tour. Let's see your Bottecchia Old Fireleg!
Dr Bianchi - nice bike. You should show more pics of it here!

We would love to see your bike.
You need 5 posts X 2 days for 10 to post pics, go around, say Hi and comment on anything that grabs you, the bikes here would be a good start.
Its an anti-spam security measure that serves us very well.

Here's one I've been cleaning up and returning close(r) to stock, on behalf of a cousin. Still wears regina chain & freewheel and yes, those cables still need to lose some inches....

cfernandez - Yours is very similar frame to mine which is SPX and has shorter point lugs (from '87) and also has the more blocky 'B' engraving in the fork crown as opposed to the more fancy script 'B'. I wonder what the timeline is on this particular detail as I've seen both on seemingly similar age frames.. Will post up pics when my 'probation' is done.

I too have had a 30 year love for Bottecchia, ever since I was an undergraduate at Iowa State University and my Resident Assisstant (RA) had a red one like mine with 8-speed Dura Ace. I thought it was the most beautiful bike ever. 1991. Get that post count up so we can see your bike. Cheers.

1991 Bottecchia SLX. Still not 100% complete, I put a temporary Record rear derailleur. The group is Chorus 9 speed. I'm not real fond of the champagne color of the wheels, but I'm warming up to them.

@QuikRick, I like it in the black and white. Looks great with the rims, too.
