God awful noise
I know I'll probably be tarred and feathered for this one, but I recently installed this chain on my bike:
which has an all-city chain ring and cog. But it is now not the quiet whisper of a bike that it used to be. It omits a constant rattle/buzzing noise that is clearing coming from the new chain and the chain line is definitely straight. It is not overly tight, and the noise is somewhat muffled when I lube the bejesus out of it.
Could the chain just not be good for my chainring/cog setup?

Did you check the chainring and cog for wear? Some chain/chainring/cog combinations are noisier than others and it doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong.

It will almost definitely quiet down after a while but if it is important to you, you could just go back to the chain you were using before.

Let it break in and it should become quieter. Though, with that being said I wasn't really impressed with my Izumi Eco when it came to sound either. Once it wears out I will be going back to a KMC K710SL.

Ya, I had a KMC(forget the model) on before and it was silent until it starting wearing out.

Read enough of these sorts of threads and you'll discover that some individual chains are just noisy, even if they're the same brand and model that just came off. Ride the sod for a bit and when it finally annoys you too much, put another one on, odds are, that'll be in about 2,000 miles time

herrm so far i like my izumi eco chain. fairly quiet with allcity cog and f5 lattice chaingring and i dont have a straight chainline.

Check the chain for side movement. I replaced mine recently and it turned out the chain had a lot of flex and movement laterally, causing annoying crackling, popping and grinding as I pedaled. It was driving me crazy! Switched out to a new, different chain and voila! Noise free riding once again.
