While it does sound illegal, I'm sure he coulda won anyway. No complaints here.

And fwiw he had shifting issues in the sprint - I was pretty close behind him and his chain caught when he started to wind up the sprint, or something, and he had to look down and re-shift. Still won.

He should fire the mechanic lol!

Not doubting that for a minute...He came around some top notch sprinters with what appeared to be ease. I suppose there is a reason he's on that team and it's likely due to him being faster than most. Shifting may be attributed to their new Diamondback frames

Fayetteville Stage Race. No idea who the photag was, but it was posted on the FSR FB page as some of their official albums, so I am guessing it was one of their volunteers.

A better suffer pic. This is the uphill sprint finish at the 2014 Tucson Bicycle Classic. I came in third, needing to beat the guy behind me in the white helmet! I got the pic from a screen capture from a video my wife took.

An approved mechanical counts. There was a guy two years ago at Bethel who tore up his FD shifting, why I don't know. He came into the pit, showed Mike, who let him bend it back and shift it into the big ring. I've also seen guys breK spokes so the wheel is a potato chip. They swapped wheels and went on their way.

Yay winning. I took off at 1k and never looked back. From body language the guy to my left looks like he was on my wheel and everyone else was chasing. I look happy! Photo by Don from this set.

Love it! After another 10m, you're in 40th place, but it doesn't matter.

Congrats!

well done. i recall your early season successes last year and dealing with setbacks later on. this seems to confirm that you're en route for great things this year

It looked that way at the start of last year too I was crushing it until June and then I just got weaker just as everyone else was hitting mid-season form. By August my results were abysmal.

This year I'm trying to be more realistic about what I'm capable of. After May, I plan to take a break and reset.

That's a really tough, fun course.

I raced it in college like 5 years ago.

+1 on both counts.

The hill hurt way more than I expected! And nobody crashed in the nasty corner after the downhill, so the race worked out pretty well.

That was our initial spring break plan but it has turned into a staycation with 3 races thrown in for some good fun.

I used to ride up that hill on a '85 Schwinn World Sport with 20lbs of books in a backpack and a triple cap from Cafe Roma in one hand.

169 at race time. I would like to get down to 165 in time for Nevada City. I haven't been 150 lbs since 9th grade.

Here's one of a sequence from the Sunday 40+ RR at Fayetteville TX this past weekend.
Courtesy of Lisa and Chris Shaw.

That's me in the white Giro Air Attack in the group of 3 chasing the field that is blurred up the road there. Lap 3 of 3 in the road race, we'd just gone over the KOM hill for the last time, into a long open, flat stretch of road that went crosswind, then 90 right to tailwind, back to crosswind, back to tailwind... etc, for about 5 miles. Right at the top of the KOM a couple of the top GC guys turned on the afterburners and it wasn't long before a gap opened several riders in front of me that I couldn't get across. Managed to grab a teammie and another rider and chase back on, eventually, but that burned all my remaining matches for the day. Managed to hang on to the group til the finish, got popped on the finish hill. My lone teammie never got back on - my mistake for not checking behind before we organized the chase.
