To my eyes , it looks like a early to mid 2000's answer to the street fixie craze by Gios. (Cinelli makes a version, Bianchi and MAsi do as well ) The drilled unicrown fork and drilled brake bridge point to the fact that its not a dedicated track bike -- the gussets are likely just added to make the bike stand out in a crowd of similar street fixies , although that bike is upright enough that it could have track geometry

I think its a $300 bike with all the value being in the frameset and crank arms alone. The King headset is nice too, --

The bike would be pretty attractive with a more traditional build though -

I'm going to say that you can get more than 3 bills out of it, especially to the right buyer. It might or not be rare, but it certainly is unique. I did a quick search and found no other examples. I did find several Rossin's with gussets as well as a 3Rensho or two, but no Gios.

So the fact that it is unique model from a known brand gives is a certain cachet. The components are a mish-mash, but they are all quality at least. Do you know anything about the tubing? Gios used everything from Columbis to Dedacciai, but I'm sure whatever it is, it is decent.

More of the back story - I had the front fork built for a brake because I wanted a fixed gear bike for road training (I used to race on the track). That was regrettable, but I digress.

I bought this track bike directly from the factory in Italy, in fact I corresponded directly with Alfredo Gios himself. I was asking if he had any older track bikes that he'd be willing to sell. He responded that he had one older model in their storage that was my size. And so I wired him $500 bucks and he shipped it out to me.

Knowing that the fork was specce'd by you and the bike was not a Gios marketing attempt to cash in on the fixie craze makes it more interesting for sure -- heck , I drilled a brake mounting hole in the fork crown of my Waterford track bike BITD for the same reason. The roadie rear brake bridge is an odd choice though

I'm not one to really sit around looking at my bikes. I bought this because I needed a road fixie for training and I liked Gios. So that's what I used it for.

That said, I agree it would be cool if it were mint.

The market for bikes like is has really cooled down nicer Track bikes setup for road use that were going for around $1000 well used but not abused are only going for $200-300 right now in most markets. That said this one is a bit unique with a great back story that can be easily verified so I would go a bit higher $400-500.

All brands have to evolve and address the times. I will admit my aesthetic standard for a Gios track bike is earlier, lugged steel. Think what Patrick Sercu rode. I even can tolerate the later aluminum frames, the carbon fiber.
This bike no doubt is legitimate, but a branch on the evolutionary tree that is just not to their past visual standards.

I'd agree with this now that the OP has clarified that this is a real deal track bike and not something designed as a road fixie

I would ditch the brakes , put on a set of track drops and ask $500 -- thankfully CO has a track , maybe 2 -- @mcafiero do you know the fate of the Boulder velodrome yet? HAvent heard anything in a while

I don't know about this story. Sorry. But I can't find a single Gios frame without lugs, with gussets, on the internet. Very vague, too. When did you speak to Alfredo? What year did he tell you the frame is? Model? Paid $500 sight unseen? 80th Gios? What does that even mean?

The decals and even the headbadge (which, by the way, is a pretty recent version) are readily available on Ebay. I think someone put this together using a Gios fork, but I have no idea who made the frame.

Call me a healthy skeptic.

While I believe the OP bike is a Gios, I don't think it's a production model. More of an experiment in TiG and not something that adds value.

Oh, so I bought blue paint and decals and I'm making this up. Now i love this bike even mor . That's hilarious. I literally emailed Gios via web site, Alfredo responded. And we negotiated s $500 sale.
i even blogged the unboxing of it. Old blog that's down now but I'm sure u can find the pics.

But to assume this must be a scam is awesome. Although a little offensive. But you dont know me so I'll give you a pass.

another funny thing is that he was selling this for $500 euro. Not realizing this, I wired him $500 usd. So we had a little back and forth there. Finally he just said whatever, enjoy.
