What is really better, Trek or Specialized?

Trek is popular in the Midwest with their HQ being in Wisconsin. IMO, I would have gone with Specialized because the bike I wanted is cheaper and better components. Can't go wrong with either brand though.

There aren’t any. They each have a wide varieties of bike models. There are differences between specific models each offers, but there is no unifying theme to it.

Trek has good older bikes and wide selection and pretty good service and web site. Specialized is literally as generic as possible. Components are the same pretty much and you probably won't care much between one set and another anyway. But really there is just not a lot to say.

My personal opinion; Specialized has had some frames that were more appealing than the similar type class that Trek offered... However, iirc, Trek made the initial leap to the 'style' & Specialized leveraged off that to create a design that made there rival more appealing.
Pretty much would have bought Specialized IF I were to have known to wait for there style to come out...

I had a choice between four different LBS/IBS in my area. There are more but they catered to different riding styles. The one that made me feel most welcome carried Specialized. The one I disliked the most carried Trek. The one I disliked the most is now a Trek company store. I hated that store so much.

When I bought my Trek it was a Project One and the LBS was great letting me pick each part. They also offered me a set of Zipp 303s at a VERY reasonable price so I ordered my bike with the cheapest wheels since it had to come with some.
When it cam time for my second bike the bike Trek offered didn't have everything I wanted, but Cannondale did so they ordered the Cannon dale for me even though they had the Trek in stock.

True. Just testing the intelligence of the forum. Did you know that Dawn Wells represented Nevada in the Miss America pageant? She also helped design the daisy dukes that covered up her navel after the TV censors became concerned about her revealing attire. She later started a company that designed clothing for “physically challenged” people. She and actor Russell Johnson stayed life long friends. They used to send each other birthday cards signed “The Rest”, which was a reference to the first season credits where their names were not mentioned, until he died of prostate cancer. By all accounts, she’s a great person. I saw her at the Philadelphia boat show back in the 90s. She was there selling a cookbook she had published.
