Man’s Best Friend and Bikes ..Take your Dog with you Riding?

I see a lot of Dogs on the same trails we ride Bikes on with the pandemic and increased pedestrian traffic.
And there are happy things and cautions as well.
I’ll do the cautious first.
What I’m scared of are those smaller dogs on those long twenty foot retractable leashes.
Unfortunately, you see this case many times now. Those leashes are thin and hard to spot, and if I were to accidentally snag one of them on my Tire, could I injure a dog badly?

On the flip side I’ve come upon many a bike trailer expecting to see a child, only to find an older smaller dog being given a ride.

Our Fox Terrier passed away two years ago. Would have loved to put him in a pouch on my belly and give him a ride.

When we get over it and get another one, I can’t wait to take him for a Spin!

Show me your Dog biking with you. Post a picture please.

This is me with Duke on an overnight tour. My wife was visiting family, so the boys went out to play. Duke loves sleeping in a tent too.

I don’t take my dogs riding with me, but I *do* tell them we’re going out to chase cars. No pics. We’re undercover.

Hey little Buddy .I hope you are happy up in Heaven. Daddy misses you so much. I still remember hiking with you and taking you running.
and hiding you under my coat on cold winter days. Remember I would sit you up in my lap in the car so you could get a good view? I cried like a baby the day you passed, I miss you I miss you so much. I still have your collar in fact I saw it this morning and held it in my hands a few minutes..Dad doesn't run anymore, he rides a bike. Wish I could put you in a baby pouch and take you with me.

Lucy wondering why we've stopped on our trip following the shoreline of Michigan from Michigan City, IN. on Lake Michigan to Port Austin, MI. on Lake Huron.

I truly wish they would outlaw those 'leashes'. I've seen people walking and jogging get tripped up by them. And yes, if you were to snag one with your bike, not only the dog but YOU could be injured.

If I were to pull a dog in a trailer, it would only be on a bicycle path. Too many instances of cars striking bikes and trailers with tragic results. My problem would be trying to decide which of my four rescues would get to go for a ride.

Dogs in chariots - fine. What I dislike is dogs running heater smelter all over mountain biking trails. I met one guy with a little collie type dog with a short tail. I asked him about it. Oh, the tail got chopped when he got to close to the bike on a downhill! 🤯

Sorry no pictures of us mtn biking together (mine doesn’t do the heater shelter thing and sticks right with me). People do a double take when they see a white doodle out in the woods running trails but he loves it.
