The poll? It gives us data to back up not siphoning off content from C+V lest we get bled dry and lose our rich collective wisdom.
We may be able to lobby for going back and leaving it alone as it should be, IMO.

So, we've got 31 members voting "no" to a sub-forum, and 9 members voting "yes" to have a poll so they can vote "no" to having a sub-forum?

The subforum "could" be used to drill down more specifically on 7,8 and 9 speed bikes originally equipped as such and not necessarily C+V and "retro roadies" aren't C+V after being modernized as such despite steel and lugs or fitting a timeline too new. It assumes that more and more modern bikes do not become C+V just by aging in after a certain number of years but the early years of index and brifter shifting were still using steel and lugged frames so the foundation was as it had been to a point. Slippery slope to be sure, road to H**L, etc.
All I know is that I'm sure C+V as we know it will suffer.

I'm sorry, my remark wasn't meant to be taken all that seriously.

Off all the ways I can think of to subdivide C+V into subforums, starting with "brifters" seems like an odd choice to me.

That's the point of all this, we don't have to agree, especially if we are offended but can discuss it none the less and will likely see a different point of view or logic whether we like it or not.

...I voted no because I thought we were voting about having a poll. I demand a recount, and I want it done by Cyber Ninjas.

...this is what happens, when the thin veneer of civilization that usually covers the darker aspects of C+V, gets peeled back a little bit. We get a brief glimpse of the evil that lurks in the hearts and minds of men. I've seen some stuff, man

Which is just plain bizarre, we almost always work out whatever it is we initially disagree on and in doing so learn what we did not know that caused us to disagree in the first place, or some such version of it. Which is why this seems so rediculous since it is what makes the secret sauce so worthwhile here, again IMO.

...have you ever been in a situation where some other Classic enthusiast, who rides the same size frame as you lives nearby ? There was this one guy who used to regularly stop by the co-op here, take advantage of the fact that I was busy managing, buy a donation that was interesting to me, and then parade it in front of me. I once had a 70's Colnago lined up from a friend we both knew, only to find he had swooped in and pressured the guy into selling it to him. This whole hobby has a very, very seamy side, that never gets mentioned.
The size thing is a PITA, we ride big frames and many here think they aren't worth as much but as your example points out they are very sought after. When I find one in my size that I want, I nail it down quick, overpay if I have to because I often never see another, I lose enough sleep as it is.
I also think in general the disagreements here are removed enough that most don't spill over to the outside/real world and many of them are not near or dear enough to hold much of a grudge over being one big step removed by the innerwebz.

It feels both undemocratic and a slap in the face to everyone who's had their ideas ignored over the years. Any such idea could have easily been vetted with a poll from the mods (and not a tongue-in-cheek, poorly worded joke poll like this one - sorry @merziac, nothing personal).
