1981? Univega Gran Turismo

This bike is for sale not too far from me. By the color it looks like it might be a 1981 but
I'm not sure. It's hard to tell the condition from the one photo they have posted. It seems to
be my size and they are only asking $100. I asked for more photos so we'll see. I've been looking for a decent touring bike.

That's a good bike at $100. You can always sell it down the road for more than you paid for it if you find a different touring bike you like better.

That is a terrific touring bike. It is identical to the Miyata 610. $100 in anywhere near decent condition is an outright steal. Run, don't walk, to get this bike.

Yeah for $100 you need to buy that bike. It’s a lot of bike for the price and looks like it will clean up really well.

Looks to be 1984 or 1985 based on paint scheme. And early 80s wouldn’t have had the low rider mounts on the fork blades which is a nice bonus for a touring bike.

Cantilever brakes also would have come later than 1981, I think. I hope you snag it — I’ve had a number of Univegas, none bad.

right. '81 would've had center pulls, one bottle mount, and earlier suntour group

Good price. What group is it? That will help narrow it down, does look later than '81. I would guess '82-'83 but it's too bad there's no catalogs those years. I know it's not an '84.

+1. Cantis, mid-fork mounts, 40-spoke rear wheel, Miyata-built frame (I believe?), and apparently almost never ridden -- if you're looking for a classic tourer, this would be the right one to buy at $300.

At a third of that, you should have already started sprinting towards it!

Might be an '86. '85 Miyata 610 still had water bottle bosses on the top & bottom of the downtube but not on the seat tube. If it's an '86 it might be 700c.

Nice

You’re slipping Robert. Kinda hard to tell from the pics, but it almost looks like scratches under the top tube. You usually present us with these pristine $100 showroom condition bikes. Too bad this one wasn’t as clean as your larger 610/615 that you sold which is the cousin of this bike. I think this is basically the same bike. The specialissma would be the twin of the miyata 1000. As others have said, and as you know, great bike. Perhaps it is pristine under the dirt as you seem to find them like that.
I have an 89 1000 that looks to be the same size. I thought it was what miyata called their 57, but measures closer to 55cm. I was a bit surprised as I think I see 54, 57, 60 listed. Perhaps measurement is to top of top tube. At 5’10” it is fine for me as would their 60 I would bet
