Addiction LXXVIII

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Since cutting my finger off, I woke up and decided to try woodworking without power tools. I have parked my power tools and am having at it. Have you considered the clarinet? The oboe?

Hey indyfabz a cyclist I follow did a “Ride of Silence” today in Philly and mentioned 4 cyclists killed this month. Do you know if that’s true? Sad!

Not as the primary instrument.

Heidi has a really good oboe and has not touched it all summer. I can probably work out a good deal for you if interested in a high quality oboe.

Sad.

I like the oboe, but I have no reason to think I'd be very good at playing one. My mind/finger coordination barely cuts it with a three-finger instrument.

Thanks! In the back of my mind, I thought that I might be able to hit 1k for the month - something I haven't done before. Looks like the month ends on Friday, though, so I don't think it's realistic without at least one more weekend day. Sad!

Yeah 1k in a month is a high bar. I am expecting 800 miles for the month. Still, not too shabby!

That won't make the sun rise earlier. Besides, 5:30 is already teetering on the edge of sanity with two young kids.

Did someone make cycling caps for the 41?

Is an actual 41er riding the 3 Peaks Bike Race?

Not at all!

I'm currently at 768. If I can convince the family to let me have all of Wed to myself, I might be able to do it, but it would be a really long day and I'd likely still need some overtime on my "off" days, which are normally 18mi each.

I went to the Sunday club ride again today. There were about 6 other riders, all hammerheads and one new guy who was looking for the orientation ride that's on our schedule, but nobody was there to run it. Turns out he just got his bike on Thursday. I felt bad for him before we even started. We began with a slight uphill grade and one of the guys dropped back and rode with him for a few minutes and said he was suffering during our warm up. By the time our guy came up to tell us the guy was struggling, he was gone, out of sight. I felt bad for him again, like, what a bunch of dicks we are. I hope it wasn't too discouraging for him.

He is new, it’s bound to happen. Won’t be the first and won’t be the last. Hopefully he keeps up with it. I got dropped my first group ride.

I'm sitting right at 160 for the month. Nowhere to go bit up.

It's a shame the people who run the beginner ride weren't there. They will watch out for beginners and stay with them. I don't know when they will be back.

That's called an epiphany. It's never too late for one of those.

What about altitude at altitude? I might be able to pull that one off. Breathing isn't quite as good at 9000 feet.
