Really depends on your situation as to what's possible or even better then bad. For small bits I've saved small boxes for years, shallow candy ones are easy to collect and plastic hinged top boxes are commonly available from many suppliers. Flea markets or pawn shops are good sources for small parts organizers too. For l\medium sized parts I use cardboard boxes, the USPS medium or large flat rate mailing boxes work well for ders, brake calipers, BBs and such. Big stuff like bars and cranks I find easier to not box.

What I also have found is that one ends up with a few manors and methods that evolve as the stock and storage changes. Perhaps the best advise is to have as flexible a storage area as possible. Bike parts are not one size box fits all. Andy

This is from a few years ago, but it's how I have most of my parts organized. Within these bins and drawers are also smaller containers for the smaller parts.

I just get those Plano plastic sorting bins from Walmart whenever a particular category overflows enough to require it's own box. Generally found in the fishing/outdoor section. I have a couple Shimano branded ones from way back, as they also make fishing stuff.

They live on an odd section of modular metro shelving that is very tall/skinny and square. Probably meant to fill in the gap between two larger units in a corner. The whole thing looks precarious, but it's so heavy at this point it would be hard to tip over.

I use the 12 gallon swing-top stack-able storage boxes (from Lowe's) to store helmets, shoes, saddles, tubes, gloves, bike locks, etc. At $10 bucks a pop they are cheap effective and durable. For small bike parts I use a similar box that "Brianhamp" showed above. Use a label maker to label the stacked boxes for quick identification.

I have small parts organized in compartmentalized bins. Larger parts in shoe boxes, organized by type. Here are some photos. PG

Freewheels and inner cables hung on pegboard.

Chainrings above, since they're infrequently used.
