Trek Calypso
Hey there- Full disclosure, I am totally new to any sort of specs with bikes! I went to view a vintage road bike the other day and after discovering I simply could not find my balance on it (I'm 6'2 and felt almost like I was on all fours trying to balance on it) opted for a different model that felt like a dream. The thing is, I feel like I may have overpaid, plus I'm super curious to know what I have! I believe it's a Trek Calypso of some sort, but the thing is online I can't find any frames that look like the frame on mine- Paint jobs, sure, but not the same frame. Could anyone possibly tell me what I might own, and what it might be worth? http s:// im gur. com /FWQ5r6v http s:// im gur. com /hNekAvP

What you've got is a Trek Calypso beach cruiser. Hi-ten frame, 7-speed drivetrain, 26" wheels.
These models capitalized on the need for upright, cruiser-style bikes that are the opposite of expensive road bikes. Simple drivetrain, simple brakes, simple everything.
If you don't mind the weight and the low-budget components, go for it. Any bike that you're comfortable on is a good one.
Retail new was a little less than $300. FMV is $125-150 all tuned up and ready to go, less if not.

Research on BikePedia tells me that the darts on the top tube and fork began in 1999. It was offered in Metal Flake Green in '99 and '00. One of those years would be my guess. The two letter date code on the Shimano rear derailleur might help narrow it down. Shimano date codes
The bike later went to have an aluminum frame in 2002.
Catalog scan from 1999

As far as value, wouldn't you rather not know if you got burned? the important part is that it fits and you like riding it!

Clang Thanks for the info and the photo help!! I mean, I'm definitely a little sketched price wise because I don't make a lot and initially went to get a bike that was half the price, like a dummy. Now I just really wanna get a set of white wall tires for it, I love that look. Kind of sad the gear cover and kickstand are gone too, but hey, it's a big cool bike and I am (hopefully) a big cool person. Lol
