NOS 3ttt Super Leggero Merckx bars. Still in the plastic!!!
Found these on CL. They had been listed a month prior, but thankfully the seller misspelled “handel “ bars - so I think that kept them from being snatched up before I saw them.
Still has the 3ttt decal which I had never seen before.
Seller showed me around his wonderful collection, included an unrestored 1910 Pierce Arrow. It was in incredible condition and featured a leaf spring fork and suspended rear triangle similar to a modern Moots.

Jumped outta bed this morning and drove half an hour to grab this for $40 bucks. In great shape! Would have gone just for the cranks, but with an Ultegra BB and chain rings? Pedal to the metal….

... and I may have overpaid at $25. The bike itself is interesting, and while on the large side for me, still manageable. But everything, and I do mean everything, is seized up and stiff, and in some cases immobile. The rear wheel is going taco, the chain is obvious, and the biggest concern is the headset. The headset does not turn. Eeeek! Guess who's gonna be YouTubing "rebuild your Cannondale Headshok!" until he either masters it or throws the thing out CLANG! from his workshop door ...

In passing, I will note that of all the craptastic saddles that have staggered through my workshop door, this is by far the crappiest - even outdoing the noseless saddle I acquired a couple of years ago ...

Killing Cannondale headset bearings is actually impressive, those things are indestructible.

Headshocks are like CV axles, as long as that boot doesn't get ripped they are usually fine, the needle bearings anyway. The cartridge is a whole other can of worms.

It’s much better than I feared - the only thing wrong with the Headshok is the top bearing - is that an LLB543 or should i search for it under another number? - and even the shock appears to still be workable. I have saddles to choose from; if I don’t have any decent V-brake pads in the box o’ mtb bits I’ll need one of those; a basic $10 5-8 speed chain; and maybe a new rim/rear wheel if I can’t bikewallah that one into serviceability. Oh, and tires, as while the treads are excellent the sidewalls are, as my game-playing kids say, kinda sus.

I don’t think it was ridden much, but it somewhere along the line had the rear wheel damaged and then was left somewhere that the headset top bearing was infiltrated and rusted in place. With it still in place I removed the seal and soaked it with various derusting sprays but it still only moves maybe 10 degrees.

Wasn't really in the market for another bike (I live in an apartment, so space is limited), but saw this guy looking sad at a garage sale. It only cost me $25, and possibly my relationship.

It's a Manufrance with mostly Simplex components, though it looks like someone upgraded the rear shifter to Suntour at one point.

At 57 cm it is too short for me and probably too tall from my partner, so I don't think it'll have a permanent home with me, so I'll likely just try and spiff it up a bit and send it on it's way. Unfortunately vintage bikes aren't super popular around here, especially not road bikes. The general attitude is if it's not a top of the line full suspension mountain bike, it isn't a real bike .

That Stronglight crank makes any bike it's on so much better. This is probably a low end '70's bike, Low tensile tubing. But with a chrome fork, Mafac brakes and that crank it's looking good.

I'd missed out on 2 other Marketplace offers for cheap bike crap, but scored a $10 bag of stuff. Based on the pic on the listing, I was expecting a handlebar bag, but it turned out to be a pair of panniers. The other parts were a melange of era/quality, with my eye only on the CLB front brake. I was pleasantly surprised to see the stems turned out to be a late production GB and a '50s pre-ATAX DFV french shorty.

My newly scavenged 2006ish Specialized Globe Sport aluminum hybrid bike. I found it in a dumpster near a construction site where other abandoned bikes have been marked for disposal. I also couldn't find the serial number or make (white Specialized Globe) in bike registries. So far it checks out...should be nice for navigating the C&O Canal to Cumberland one day.

I sold and serviced a few of those. Damn near had to give them away before "S" started putting their logo in little places. People came to that shop for that brand and would think we were pulling one over on them when we showed them a "Globe".

Quite a great snag! I got my 07-08 off CL for 40$ and proceeded to upgrade out of necessity or comfort. Weird model in the S lineup which didn’t last long or get much love from them. Seems to have an interesting industry backstory.

one thing... find the year. The fork on this had a recall for possible failure. Does yours have the mid braze attach points? Better yet get the s# and call Specialized, check the web for recall page.

Haha, I noticed many more abandoned bikes here, including a tandem bike stashed in construction debris probably by construction workers. I wonder if there were others above this taken before, but this was left in the dumpster because people thought "WTF is a Globe bike?"

Nice! I guess cheaper than I thought. I was impressed that the gears were not rusted and the chain just had a thin layer of rust. Should be an easy cleanup with WD-40 followed by synthetic 20W-50 motor oil for lubing.

Mid-braze attach points? I did see there was a recall on Globes. The serial number is 757030877. As I recall Specialized has wiped these serials from its website.

Ha! Those “globe” pedals got taken off pronto. The pic I put up is behind the times with further mods. Have to snap a new one.

But as I got it: later, dang site keeps crashing when I try to install pic!

UPDATE: Got it home, the picture didn't do it justice, I don't thing it was ever ridden. A few minor paint scrapes, nothing bigger than 3/16" diameter, paint still shines even through the layers of dust and very minimal surface rust on the chrome. Decals are in great shape, tubes hold air and it has the original tires although they are fossilized LOL. Factory saddle doesn't have so much as a loose thread on the stitching. It's going to clean up really nice, too bad it's not worth anything. Date code is 2860.


Picking this up tomorrow to use on my stationary trainer after knee surgery, the step through frame will (hopefully) make access easier until my knees regain some range of motion. The only other bikes I have with step through frames that would fit the trainer are 2 Gitane mixtes and I don't want to circumnavigate their "Frenchness" just for a trainer. I think it's about a 1980 with a 22" frame. I'll need to raise the bars and saddle a fair amount, I have a tall adjustable stem and hopefully a long seat post the right diameter, I have several so the odds are in my favor. For $15 I don't think I can go wrong. Once I'm done I should be able to get my money back or donate it.

That's a nice catch, not many of these on thsi side of the pond. And great crankset.
Manufrance produced mostly mid range bike as far as i know, they were made by the Manufacture d'armes et de cycles in Saint Etienne, and were quite common in France. Solide bikes

So many bike makers seem to have some history in weapons. Of the top of my head is BSA, Miyata and, well, they didn't last long, Browning.

Nice save molleraj . That Globe looks like a good all arounder bike. And your probably right to think that people may have passed it up not knowing what a Globe is. This is a new one to me.

Thanks Velo Mule! I am going to try it out on the Capital Crescent and maybe Rock Creek trails tomorrow morning. The bell works (lol) as does the headlight that was on it, which is really quite bright. I just need to use WD-40 to pull a little rust out of the chain and then lube it as I do everything else with synthetic 20W-50 motor oil.
