This morning I've been working on the old Calfee Tetra Pro. Giving it one final chance to prove itself. I just have not connected with this one despite lusting after one for years and years. This morning I swapped on a brand new set of Campagnolo Zonda wheels with Continental GP 5000 7000 x 25 tires and latex tubes. Same setup as on the Mavics I just removed. If this doesn't "wake up" the bike for me it'll be on the chopping block for someone else to use. I've never had any bike not come alive under me with Zonda's on it. No real weight difference from what I took off as the bike only weighed an ounce lighter with the Zonda's. The tires are wider by at least 1.5mm on these rims though. That's good thing. Gonna stick with the same pressure I was running though for the first ride. I was surprised how greasy the drivetrain was on this when I worked on it this morning. I figured it only had a couple of hundred miles on it. But when I checked I've done 451 miles on this one but still that's not a lot to make the drivetrain nasty in the clean conditions I ride. Most have been a lot of grease on the chain when new that I forgot to clean off.

Today's shot of the bike after the wheel swap.

18 lbs 2 ozs. Almost into the 17 lb club.

Putting the Batavus ‘Black Beauty’ in the stand to get the Pumpkin Spice brake blocks installed, and then the project morphed a bit. You can see the nitty gritty here….https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ing-wrong.html

Sometimes I’m not sure this tool was worth the expense.

A little slow, but here we go. 🙂 I'm not sure what year this is yet, so I'm reluctant to post much, in the C&V forum.😉

Once I changed that BB, I realized the rear derailleur hanger was bent. 😲😟 But the guys at the Davis Bike Collective straightened me and the bike out. 😁

I ended up putting on 2 good used chainrings, so that I have a 53-39-24 triple. This bike had the Dura-Ace 7703 FD and Ultegra 6603 crankset, but crappy/worn rings, when I bought it.

It shifts great, so far, but I haven't tried that 53t ring yet. That's mostly for emergencies, like if a bear started chasing me or something. 😁😉 I might still mess with that one more, later. I'm pretty happy to have that granny gear though, for the mountains they keep putting in my way. 🙄😁

funny how once you ‘fender-ize’ a bike suddenly anything without fenders just seems kinda naked…!

82 Ross Force One

I did a few era correct updates.
Ritchey bullmoose, shimano mt50 brakes,
SR pedals, and my custom prizm chainstay protector....made from an old chevy decal. Lol

I like tuf looking bikes.

This decal worked good as a frame protector, Thick and 80's prism.
Kept getting ripped off on eBay.
$3 at the antique store.

Great looking Ross! What’s holding the hubs/wheels? An Allen head skewer or just Allen bolts screwed into the axle?

that receiver is huge!

I'm very surprised when I see people on bicycles without mudguards around London. Which, weirdly, is a lot of bikes, especially road ones. These bicycles just look wrong to me, as someone mentioned before, strangely naked.
Still lusting after metal mudguards (like the ones pictured few posts above), especially Gilles Berthoud. I like the mounting of the front one, at least in the photos. All my mudguards were modified to a similar, though handmade, mounting system going inside the steerer tube before I was aware someone actually makes a mounting system like that. Eventually setled with black Bluemels as a mudguard of choice. They are some kind of thin plastic, but a very resilient one and are also much lighter than steel mudguards.

THAT is a gorgeous build! The "Force One" is a model I didn't know about. I've got a chrome Mt. Whitney in my build queue for this winter, but still haven't decided what it's gonna be yet.

I had a Ross Aristocrat road bike with the Ishiwata 024 frameset, and that was a comfy dream to ride. Have you had this one out much?

Which, after a lot of work and a 14 month frame repair, restoration and respray buy Joe Bell., is now this:

Have a lot of pics of the frameset as received and the build process after the restoration; may do a separate thread for those.

It's the tail end of the riding season here in mid-Michigan, and I'm trying to get my house in order.

The "winter" bikes will be my trusty Bruce Gordon BLT from Taiwan and a Specialized Rockhopper that'll go studded.

I've been running the Gordon with a North Roads bar that doesn't do it for me for anything beyond a few miles, so I'm going back to drops. Got one of the Velo Orange Randonneurs that are on sale right now, and the "50 cm" is actually a really nice 46 cm at the hoods. A great fit for this bike, but while I was setting this up, I ruined the 80s Dura Ace levers.. and I'd just put a Mirrycle on it, too. Boo hoo... And I wasn't whaling on it, either.

cheers -mathias

After tight comes loose.

That Valgan is looking great! Similar trajectory for me. I started stripping it in the spring. I’d be able to work on it for a day or two then life took over…sometimes it was a few weeks before I could make any progress. With the onset of cooler weather I was motivated to get it done before it got too cold to spray. The color is “Coldharbour Lane.” I finished applying the transfers and gloss coat and this morning I put the headset and fork on. I think it’s coming together nicely. I may use white housing like you’ve done, and that may call for white handlebar tape which I’m generally not fond of because it gets dirty so fast.

Yup, that's the color. Spray.bike was easy to apply, though I couldn't get a gloss going even after using a whole can of their clear-coat, then a can of.... well, now I can't remember what it was, but I did confirm that it was 'compatible'... But it definitely looks good enough! Current hold up is that the VO JIS BB doesn't get along with the Stronglight 93 cranks (won't seat far enough on the spindle) . Probably will do dark brown bar tape, to go with the San Marco saddle on it. I happened to have the white housing, and it seemed to go with the decals/logos. I think it'll be a neat bike, though way too small for me- I plan to give it to a cycling buddy that has helped me out with a bunch of non-cycling stuff.
