Vintage Mercian "King of Mercia" Road Bicycle - $250 (Williamsburg)
Posted 2023-01-09 15:28"My wife says I have too many bikes and ... she's right. So it's time to thin the herd, in this case a vintage top-of-the-line Mercian "King of Mercia" road bike - hand-built in 1981 (serial no. 31581) in Derby, England. I bought it about 10 years ago and this was my regular road bike at our home in the Northern Neck where it traveled throughout that bucolic countryside. Alas we sold that home a couple years ago and since then it hasn't been ridden. Here are some specs:
Top-Tube: 58 cm, c-c
Seat Tube: 58 cm, c-c
Standover Height: 85 cm
Brakes and Levers: Shimano 600 (original)
Derailleur: Shimano 600 (original), 6-speed freewheel
Crank: Shimano 105
Tires: Clincher, high pressure 700 x 23c
Wheels: Ambrosio Aero Dynamic 19 Elite Extra (really nice)
Hubs: Campagnolo Record
Saddle: San Marco Regal
Handlebar: Randonneur (probably English GB)
Pedals: Mavic
The bike is in overall good condition. There's some limited surface corrosion on the usual places on the top tube and bottom bracket, and the clear-coat has yellowed a bit. It needs a new chain and otherwise could be ridden as-is. The bike should be broken down, cleaned and re-lubed for optimal performance and I've accommodated that in setting a reasonable price. The wheel set alone is worth what I'm asking for the whole bike. This is a perfect vintage ride for the Virginia Capital Trail where I might spot it while riding one of my other vintage English Bikes!
Please respond by CL mail relay and specifically state that you're interest in this bike (not just "is the item still available?).

Raleigh Super Course MkII (cheap)
HERE'S a steal (steel)… $100 for a popular-sized, nearly new, Reynolds-framed Raleigh SC, with bar-end shifters and 700c alloy wheelset. I’m surprised it hasn’t been bought…

Nice Raleigh Super Course 12. Reynolds 531 frame. Weinmann concave rims. Suntour barcon bar end shifters. See photos.

How about a tall Bridgestone RB-1? Paint appears pretty good from here, bummer about the stem, RD, and wheels though:

That is a 1987 Imperial Rose. I like that color as well.
The blue and more common Schwinn Passage was from 1986. The 80's Schwinn Passage run was pretty short and I think that this color is even less available.

Raleigh Super course $100
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...7918263913032/
Seller says: "1970s Raleigh Super Cross TT. Double butt welded with end shifters. Limited edition. Crank along with original sew ups and wheels replaced" I think this is a Super Course, not Super Cross -- the latter was a 1980s BMX bike, If I remember correctly. Seller asking $100 in Willowbrook, IL
