Look Keo Clip in pedals not working, pls help

I bought my first pair of clip in pedals and shoes.

Pedals are Look Keo Classic.

Set them up, tried to clip in but physically couldn’t even with all my weight on one pedal.

Wound the tension down to as slack as possible.

now they clip in but as soon as I take the pressure off they clip right out again.

So, I increased the tension, slightly, thinking it would hold better but again I physically can’t clip in.

Any suggestions?

Take them back to where you bought them. I have been using Keo pedals since they first came out and have never had any problems with either clipping in or retention even at the lowest spring setting. There has to be a defect with yours.

+1^^^. Pretty rare these days with shoes being compatible with most cleats but if you installed the cleats and had to force them to bend to the contour of the shoe when screwing them down this could also be a problem. A little bending is normal but too much and it won't fit the pedal properly.

I can get the front of the cleat in, no problem, it’s just the back that won’t go. Cleats came with the pedals and fit on the shoes nicely. When I take my shoes off and look at the cleats visually they look like they will fit in the pedals but I cannot get them to go that last little bit and clip in.

Did you buy these pedals new? The only thing I can think of is that you have the wrong cleats for those pedals. The older Delta cleats will not fit a Keo pedal

Backwards or upside down? I think the triangular shape mount would make it impossible to mount backwards with the toe facing back. My first thought was upside down.

No need to be ashamed - it's called experience! Experience is the teacher that gives the final exam on the first day.

I know I've done similar, but I never admit it and just blame the cat.

Ha ha, don't feel too bad. I remember a local TV station had a segment on bike safety and the "expert instructor" had his helmet on backwards the entire time.
