Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The redeeming feature was the 4WD. It was the cheapest 4WD to buy and run 30K miles per year. I didn't like working on it, though. It was also noisy and rough on the freeway.

That was our post-race lunch destination. We go there whenever we are in Skaneateles.

It'll be about as weight weenie as a fat bike gets, I suppose. I mean, a light fat bike tire is around 1100 grams, so WWism is kind of pointless.
Are they 27.5? My mtb is 32 pounds with 27.5 x 2.8 Maxxis Rekon tires which are about 825 grams each.

That's why I run plus tyres on my fatbike. 800gr 3.0" tyres are so nice!

Looked like this but dark blue.
My neighbor has that truck with an automatic. Also, dark blue. The family has had it since new. People are often surprised that it's not all rusted out. Their secret? It over-winters in the barn.

Have you taken it in the snow with the 3.0s?

26" with a 4.6 Specialized Ground Control in that picture. I could fit 27.5", but I'd be limited to 4.0".

I've ridden a lot of snow on 2.8 and 3.0. Never tried 'em on a groomed fatbike trail though. 3.0 gets me through extended sand pits just fine, way less sketchy than on 2.3"

Most of my snow riding has been in this kinda stuff, couple to 4 inches of fresh over sometimes rutted, lumpy ice/packed snow.

I was pretty happy with it. Nice cloth seat, good a/c, and decent factory radio with cassette. Really comfortable on the highway with soft suspension. Too bad it was no good on any icy mountain road.

A friend had a Pugsley with 4.0s and I took him to a trail with lots of climbing. There are a few steep switchbacks littered with rocks and sand. He just cruised around those turns like they were easy.

Recall I could not get my new Garmin 530 to pair with my Varia? I had some time to futz around and after a factory reset, it seems to work. Will do a real road test tomorrow.

Fat tires make up for my lack of skill. Mostly.
