The redeeming feature was the 4WD. It was the cheapest 4WD to buy and run 30K miles per year. I didn't like working on it, though. It was also noisy and rough on the freeway.

I think it weighed about 28 or 30 pounds in that pic, without the mud. 
After I'm done installing the current upgrades, it'll probably be a couple of pounds lighter. I'll weigh it at some point.
It'll be about as weight weenie as a fat bike gets, I suppose. I mean, a light fat bike tire is around 1100 grams, so WWism is kind of pointless.

In 1993 I worked at a GMC dealer and bought a new truck for $11.500. It had a V6, 5 speed, and 3.08 differential, so it got better than 20mpg hwy. With a 34 gallon tank it had a range of over 600 miles. When we moved to snow country I traded it in on a Subaru for the wife and I got the old Tercel p.o.s.

I've ridden a lot of snow on 2.8 and 3.0. Never tried 'em on a groomed fatbike trail though. 3.0 gets me through extended sand pits just fine, way less sketchy than on 2.3"
Most of my snow riding has been in this kinda stuff, couple to 4 inches of fresh over sometimes rutted, lumpy ice/packed snow.

I was pretty happy with it. Nice cloth seat, good a/c, and decent factory radio with cassette. Really comfortable on the highway with soft suspension. Too bad it was no good on any icy mountain road.

I have some Maxxis Colossus 4.8s to put on the HED carbon wheelset. I originally planned to pair them with a 4.0 tire (Maxxis Juggernaut or Schwalbe Jumbo Jim), but fat bike tires are hard to come by lately so you take what you can get.

A friend had a Pugsley with 4.0s and I took him to a trail with lots of climbing. There are a few steep switchbacks littered with rocks and sand. He just cruised around those turns like they were easy.
